Good points. All part of the "excitement" of working for a company trying to commercialise a technology. Manufacturing has been shifted to Germany, as there is a lot more government support for micro generators there than here in Australia. It also means manufacturing is close to the other promising market in the UK. R&D is still firmly planted in Noble Park (and not on a bamboo raft to the South East of Brisbane). There are no plans to shut down the Australian side of the operation, as this is where the main product knowledge base resides. I would say the company has a fair chance of succeeding commercially, and the technology is important socially and environmentally. As to the Australian staff, many of them were made redundant approximately 6 months back. This lead to the inevitable drop in moral of the remaining staff, but moral has improved since then. I don't foresee the company doing that again any time soon. I've found them a good and generally happy bunch of people to work with. Job/consulting role for mostly Linux server based organisation

Hi folks I've contacted a couple of you directly that I've had direct dealings with before but I thought I'd post here also. For quite some time now (5+ years) we've looked after an organisation in a support role mostly comprising of emergency support and occasional maintenance for their servers and with methods of connecting to these servers. It's time for us to pass on the torch as our arts practice is now the primary focus and we're looking primarily for an individual or small friendly consultancy to take the role over. There are 3 main Debian based servers running virtualised in a dual redundant Xen Advanced Edition server setup, and 1 Debian based VPN/backup server. The servers run mail, VPN, webmail, database hosting, file sharing, various other services. They have approximately 15-20 users in house and several roaming crews that remote in. The setup carries a fair amount of legacy from earlier periods and needs to continue in this manner to suit the needs of the organisation. The organisation also functions like a family and this suits primarily personal care which is why we recommend either a single person or small organisation to take it on. They've been very good to us for many years and it's been hard to let go of this contract because of that. Small job: VPS server maintenance

Hi I'm looking for someone to do ongoing maintenance on my Ubuntu Virtual Private Server, hosted by iiNet and currently running Ubuntu 10.10. This is a *seriously* part-time role (e.g. maybe a couple of hours a month). The server is used to run a web server (running a python/django application, plus DAV), DNS server and will host mail in future. I need someone who knows what they are doing to keep a loose eye on the server (currently done through nagios/icinga monitoring), implement package updates, check for potential security issues, etc. Down the line, I'd also be looking for someone (ideally the same person, but not necessarily) to make updates and alterations to the existing web application. This would involve some experience with python and the django framework, plus HTML and CSS. A bit about me to help you know what you'd be dealing with. I basically know nothing about Linux, but have a (severely-outdated!) Computer Science and Maths degree so I'm a pretty competent user of most things technical, once they're explained to me. With (Python & Django) help from a friend I did a sturdy chunk of the HTML and CSS for my website and often do HTML prototypes of web forms for clients. My website is central to marketing my business, so I recognise the importance of paying someone competent to do this maintenance. However, I am a small business owner, so I can't afford to pay for more than what I need.
