V3 Alliance is a not for profit registered Research Service Provider,
established in 2000 by a consortium of Victorian Universities. V3
Alliance operates a High Performance Computer (HPC) centre of expertise
that designs, manages and installs innovative HPC and specialist Cloud
application solutions to Academic, Government and Industry Research
Organisations.
V3 delivers a wide range of managed HPC and Cloud services, training and
support, as well as professional R&D services in Advanced Computing,
Visualisation, Virtual Worlds and Simulations, Computational Engineering,
Spatial Information, Data Management, Health, and Life Sciences. We
support diverse fields that are dependent on computational modelling and
simulation, informatics, data management and analysis, and are ISO9001
certified.
V3 have an immediate opening for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to
work within our HPC & Infrastructure Department responsible for designing,
delivering and operating High Performance Computing infrastructure to
Academic, Government, Industry Research and Commercial Organisations.
The Senior Systems Engineer will play a key role in maintaining the
security, reliability and capability of both V3 Alliance and client IT
Infrastructure; designing, building and supporting advanced computing
platforms; and solving complex technical challenges in a fast paced IT
environment.
This role is well suited to a person with strong technical skills in linux
system administration who enjoys working with people, travel, and the
opportunity to develop new ideas and skills.
The successful applicant will have four years relevant system
administration experience, qualifications in a computer science or a
relevant discipline that includes computer related, mathematics or science
courses relevant to the position, and/or substantial relevant experience.

engage in a wide range of advanced technologies and products from
networks, servers, and desktops through to supercomputing.
Some of your key skills will include:
A demonstrated understanding of operating HPC systems for scientific,
engineering & biomedical clients, along with extensive skills
compiling, deploying and maintaining typical applications used
thereon.
Experience with high performance and distributed file systems and
competence with deploying and managing linux based systems/clusters
based on RHEL, CentOS and Debian, using tools such as xCAT,
Maui/Torque, Moab/Slurm, PBS Pro, SGE etc.
Competence with CLI software build environments, customizing and
compiling opensource code on HPC platforms, compiling and supporting
applications utilizing MPI and general expertise in programming and
scripting in perl, python, shell and C/C.
