gogo6 and reverse dns

Is anyone else using gogo6 with reverse dns? I've set dns_server in my config file but it's not being delegated. My prefix is 2001:388:e000:700::/56, but the dns resolution stops beyond 2001:388:e000:: (e.8.8.3.0.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa), which resolves to ns[123].aarnet.net.au: > nslookup -q=ns e.8.8.3.0.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa Server: 127.0.0.1 Address: 127.0.0.1#53 Non-authoritative answer: e.8.8.3.0.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa nameserver = ns1.aarnet.net.au. e.8.8.3.0.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa nameserver = ns3.aarnet.net.au. e.8.8.3.0.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa nameserver = ns2.aarnet.net.au. anything beyond that is NXDOMAIN. CPU limiting or similar of an application

Hi All, Running Thunderbird 15.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.4 (Please don't suggest changing my email client or Linux to your current favourites.) Thunderbird is doing a major re-indexing of messages, which is really pushing my CPU to its limits. (i.e. getting over 60C core temperature, email process using 100-160% of CPU usage - dual core CPU) Full details of my hardware, and the CPU usage are documented here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2399189 That was this time last year. Doing the same thing now with my updated version of TB. (Only happens for a couple days, once a year, when I shift all my Sent messages of the previous calendar year to an "archive" folder.) Could any of you point me to instructions to get Ubuntu to limit or choke the demand that the Thunderbird process calls upon the CPU? Thanks =very= much. Carl Turney Bayswater

UPS and Linux

Hello, I have a Powerware PowerRite XT (PRXT0600A), which I am attempting to configure with nut over RS232, to allow for clean shut downs. However, so far I haven't had any luck trying to talk to it, or work out what language it speaks even. Its like it I forgot to plug it in in fact, I am not getting any response to anything. Fan maintence in PC's

I am posting this in luv-main as as far as I am concerend this is an issue of critcal importance. I have found over the years fans (usually sleeve bearing) will eventauall get noisy. For some time like most people I simply purchased new fans, I have found though that most sleeve bearing fans can be lubricated greatly extending there life. I am posting this at this time as I have found over the years they usually become noisy around this time of year. I in fact have just done a couple yesterday. The procedure is to get access to the fan, place it horizontally with the actaul fan down. Under the label in the centre is a depression around 7 to 8 mm dia, this has the fans thrust bearing in it. A couple of drops of machine oil, making sure one does not get any oil out side the bearing is all that is required. To reseal for most fans I use a square of insulation tape. I have a number of 80mm fans still going well after 10 years using this procedure. Now if one has some Thermaltake fans one job is good deal easier is these have a rubber plug over the bearing (under the label). In this case one carefully removes the plug with a sharp implement making sure not to damage it, a couple of drops of machine oil and replace the plug. It may take some hours for the fans to become completely silent again, the longest time so far has been around 5 or 6 hours. I have been doing this now for at least 8 or 9 years with only a single failure, even then I did not give the fan enough time for the oil to penitrate. IMPORTANT Note, Do __NOT__, I repeat do __NOT__ use motor oil, this oil WILL gum and eventuall sieze the fan. I use sewing machine oil avaible from most supermarkets. If a fan is difficult to access, eg the drive bay fan in a Thermaltake Xaser6 case I usually replace such fans with either a ball or lately maglev bearing fans. I thought it was just protected by the University firewall. I have disabled it and will see if the network stays up. Assuming it does I will start looking around in the rules to try to find out what was happening and once that is sorted will re-enable it. Network connectivity Ubuntu 12.04

Hi, I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Optiplex 780. It used to work fine network connectivity no problems with previous versions of Ubuntu but now accessing the web is almost impossible in the last hour I have had to drop and reestablish the connection to the network about 15 times. In fact just about every time I click on a link Firefox just sits there churning away trying to connect and getting nowhere for as long as I care to leave it trying. I have a wired connection via a University LAN. If I disconnect then reconnect then reload the page it is there almost instantly. It doesn't appear to be a Firefox problem as I get similar with aptitude from the comment line and Chromium. It doesn't seem to be a network problem as other computers plugged into the network connect and remain stable. The only weirdness that seems to be from the network is the proxies sometimes it ONLY works with auto detect sometimes it only works with manual and this can vary several times throughout the day. My best guess is something screwy in Ubuntu or a network cable going bad. I have a new cable on order to eliminate that any ideas what else it could be? Stripes.
