Hello,
I have a CamLink original which worked fine under Debian buster. But
then I upgraded to Debian Bullseye. Now I no longer get the vl4 driver
for the device.
Running a Buster VM on the computer, and then redirecting the USB port
inside the VM, this works fine.
But ideally would like to get this working without a VM. Any ideas on
how to debug this issue?
The closest I can see is this bug report:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=966541 - but I don't
get any stack trace in my kernel log files. Also this is Camlink, not
the newer CamLink 4K.
The logs I do get (tail -f /var/log/*.log) after plugging in the device
are:
==> /var/log/kern.log <==

Not sure why it is trying to use it as a MTP device... Is this normal? I
don't see anything about v4l which I would expect to see.
Thanks

We have an upcoming Main Meeting in a few days and it will be the first
time we are running it online!
Traditionally we would start at 7pm and wrap at around 9pm followed by
dinner at a local restaurant. (feels like the past life!)
However, now the event is online and almost all the reasons led to a 7pm
start are invalid!
Now the question is: *What time is best to start an Online Main Meeting*?
Options we can consider are:
*12pm - 2pm*
*5pm - 7pm*
*7pm - 9pm*
*8pm - 10pm*
Please let me know by replying to this email or contacting the committee at
<luv-ctte(a)luv.asn.au>.
Ideally we will settle on a time that works the best for most of our
community, especially those who would previously find it difficult to
attend in-person meetings due to distance or family commitment, etc.
For that reason I would like to hear from anyone who has a preference,
especially if:
- you live inside the curfew zone.
- you are a parent or a carer
- you work between 9 to 5 (if that still is a thing for some?)
- or for any other reason there is a limit on the range of hours you can
attend online meetings.
It's worth noting that the meeting will be accessible on a desktop browser
and Android phones and iPhones.

Hello Craig,
Many thanks for your excellent posts, I am learning more. However I
have Debian 10, nominally up to date, and it has Wayland with Gnome as
the desktop. I am finding it very frustrating that I cannot copy and
paste to and from the XTerm window. I used to be able to do with
earlier terminal emulation under the XWindows system. I used it to be
able to copy text from a terminal into an email, and commands back
from email, ensuring that I did not make typos. I do understand that
there can be security issues if used without a measure of care and
thoughtful, but it also has much merit when coping with some of the
regular expressions that come up as examples in email and on web
pages.
Regards,
Mark Trickett
Our Drupal web site was very outdated and had security issues.
I've replaced it with a Wordpress site. One advantage of Wordpress is that
upgrades are generally very easy, it will update the database for you. The
only potential hassle of Wordpress upgrades is plugin compatibility, but with
Drupal you have plugin issues as well as issues of the core product being
difficult to update.
Currently there is little content, but we will add some content from the old
site shortly.
Also I will soon have the LUV Wiki going again. Maybe tomorrow.

Thank you all for the very helpful advice:-
If I understand you all the problems are ZFS is choking because I don't
have enough disk space. The reason I don't have enough disk space is
because the files I deleted are still in the old snapshots, plus it was
already pretty full.
This seems like a good way forward but is it really and if so how do I do
it?
First things first ZFS is choking due to lack of disk space. However, I
have a lot of totally unused diskspace on a windows partition so how can I
reduce the windows partition and increase the ZFS to stop it choking. It
has 560GB of which I do not need more than 200max to leave for Windoze.
Gparted apparently doesn't like ZFS but does this matter? I can I assume
use it to shrink the Windows partition and free up about 360GB, then how do
I expand the ZFS to use that free space?
Second, I have checked /etc/cron and find auto snap shot commands for
hourly, daily, weekly & monthly
hourly = 24, daily = 31, weekly = 8, monthly = 6. It seems I could change
that to hourly = 24, daily = 7, weekly = 4, monthly = 6 and get pretty much
the same coverage with a lot less snapshots.
Listing snapshots shows some from 2019, where are they coming from as with
monthly only storing 6 months there shouldn't be anything newer than
February 2020 or am I not understanding something here?
The computer is a Lenovo W541 laptop, the longer term plan is to double the
memory to 32GB and put a 2TB SSD in this box. Does that sound sensible?
In the meantime, a thorough backup is running in at least two external
drives (one incremental and one fresh).
Stripes.

I'm getting the LUV Wiki going again. Would anyone like to help test it?
The Wiki has been broken for years because the old Drupal installation
required an old version of PHP and a routine system upgrade had installed a
new version of MediaWiki that needed a newer PHP. I have configured things to
support multiple versions of PHP running at the same time.
Also while I was at it I set up HTTP/2 and mod_pagespeed.

Hey all!
Been a while since our last LUV meeting. I am in the process of planning
for September and given it will be the first time we are running a LUV main
meeting online, we can be creative about the format. Any thoughts or ideas
are welcome!
Also, what topics should we discuss? Do you have a topic you like to hear
about? Even better, do you have a topic you would like to talk about?
The event will be held next Tuesday, September the 1st.
Feel free to reply to this*, *or send an email to the committee (

Thanks!

When we started this discussion we had this
stripinska@Stripinska:~$ sudo zfs list
NAME USED AVAIL REFER
MOUNTPOINT
alexandria 332G 1.06G 96K
/alexandria
Now having moved 47.3 GB of files to an external drive I have this.
stripinska@Stripinska:~$ sudo zfs list
NAME USED AVAIL REFER
MOUNTPOINT
alexandria 332G 782M 96K
/alexandria
What is eating my space?
It is not the cache for Firefox as this is only 320M.
How do I get it back before the box freezes.
The more disk space I free the less available space I have.
Stripes.

I keep getting a problem with a Locked -1 error message from SpiderOak
which stops it updating the files. I have this advice from SpiderOak which
seems good but assuming a GUI and as I am running this on Linux from the
terminal I need help to convert this advice to something I can use.
It has come to light that NordVPN is causing issues within SpiderOak ONE.
Unfortunately NordVPN has been unable to render any assistance with this.
Currently we have found a solution that stabilizes the working relationship
between the two programs.
Please follow the following directions.
1. Open NordVPN
2. Choose a connection, whether quick connect or one you use frequently.
3. Allow NordVPN to connect. Once connected it will display a name and IP
address for the location you are connected to.
4. Make note of the name and IP address. You will need them.
5. Select settings.
6. Select auto connect.
7. For preferred gateway choose the country associated with the connection
you chose.
8. For the region, choose the connection number you chose.
9. Navigate to Advanced.
10. Turn on Custom DNS
11. Input the IP address for the connection you chose. At this point, close
out of Nord and start it again. Once it is running and connected, it is
safe to open SpiderOak One.
