I use Google Chrome, which supports letting websites send notifications as
brief pop-ups on your screen.
This works fine, except they always appear in the bottom-right corner of my
right-hand monitor. I have two monitors, and the one on the right is kind
of secondary, and the far right of it is out of my field of vision.
Does anyone know how to control where notification pop-ups appear?
I'm running KDE on Ubuntu 16.04.
Cheers
Toby
Both Linux and Windows have problems with this card. However the
Thinkware f770 dash camera seems to be fine. Can record and playback
without any problems. So seems that the the SD card really is storing
more then 16kb.
Any ideas?
Disk /dev/sdc: 64 KiB, 65536 bytes, 128 sectors

Hi all,
I am having major problems trying to get satellite NBN access, nothing
so far has worked, there's NO information relating to Linux and the NBN
at ll particularly for satellite. I have no one who I can even discuss
what I can do with. Apparently if one is running Linux in a rural area
one is completely "snookered".
Last thing I tried is I purchased an Netcomm NF4V route but I cannot
login in to configure it. Its status lights indicate ping packets reach
the router but it does not respond. It uses an IP address of
192.168,20.1, I suppose this does not work as it appears to be outside
the 256 item address range of a standard Debian setup. Although I have
been using Linux for a long time I have little experience on networking
as I have never really run a network here, hence the problems.
And I am certainly ABSOLUTELY NOT going to run windows just to get
internet access
Any help would be appreciated. May in the end be best just to forget
about any kind of decent internet access, no point in banging ones head
against the wall forever. I wonder if the local library or community
house has internet access.
A VERY frustrated Lindsay
Hi all,
copy for the list. I hope the list is working (see below).

Hi James,
thanks. I did already. I used the GUI (and should never do this
again;-) but realized it does not do the "apt-get update" behind the
scenes.
The GUI should do this by itself, I believe, because it is there to
allow the inexperienced user to keep his system secure without needing
to use the terminal.
I mentioned it in a second mail.
I do not know whether this 2nd e-mail arrived later, Google's mail sent this:

Hi all,
I try to update packages on a desktop machine running Debian 7.
I am getting this error:
E: Error http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates/main libx11-data
all 2:1.5.0-1+deb7u3
404 Not Found
Do you know how to fix it?
Thanks
Peter
If anyone has some good Drupal skills and time to donate I believe that we
need to upgrade Drupal on the LUV web site.
If you have no Drupal skills and a LOT of time to spare then you could learn
Drupal and then help out. I can setup a VM for anyone who wants to learn
Drupal for this reason.
The LUV wiki has had little use for many years and been somewhat broken for a
couple of years. I installed a new version of mediawiki and now it's totally
broken as the Drupal auth module is no longer working. Would anyone like to
help out with this? We either need to get Drupal auth working with the latest
mediawiki or install a new authentication system.

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/password-hashing.html
As part of routine maintenance I upgraded MySQL to a more recent version on
the LUV server. Unfortunately I didn't test the system properly and didn't
notice that Drupal was down. The problem was that the Drupal database was so
old that it had a less secure method of storing the password that is rejected
by newer versions of MySQL. The solution was to just set the password again
to the same value (I don't think that the localhost connections used for MySQL
access were at risk of leaking the password - and if they were we have bigger
problems than Drupal data).
Things should be fine now and the above URL is for anyone who is curious about
the details or who is about to upgrade an old MySQL server.
select Password from mysql.user;
If the above command gives any results that are 16 bytes long then upgrading
MySQL to a recent version will give you this issue.
Finally please don't assume that I will read luv-ctte email in any reasonable
amount of time for fixing the web site. Also don't assume that I will read
personal email in such a quick time (although I will read it much sooner than
mailing lists). There's the sysadmin(a)luv.asn.au address for reporting such
things, etbe42(a)gmail.com for Google Hangouts, and you can email luv-ctte and
ask someone to SMS me.

Hopefully I am looking for some suggestions as currently I am quite
confused on this.
I have managed to get a Linux box configured for NBN via satellite,
unfortunately its in no way reliable. I can get connected but I have to
run pppoeconf after every start to get the ethernet connection up to the
satellite modem. Now it has worked but it drops out on a regular basis
and after it drops out it will often not be able to talk to the modem
until one resets the Linux box. I am running the latest update of Debian
7.x. It appears that debian 7.x does not like this set up.
What I am going to do before throwing any kind of major fit is to
purchase a Netcomm NF4V router, these having inbuilt support that does
work (hopefully). This is one of the routers reommended by the ISP
(Harbour net).
Why does it have to be so difficult to get something like this to work,
I have also so had all kinds of problems getting mobile broadband to
work, the actual connecting configuration of the dongle actaully varying
from ISP to ISP, and its NOT clear which one one is supposed to use, And
as usual the ISP' help line knows nothing of Linux.
Comments welcome
Lindsay
