Hi,
I hit a problem when attempting to upgrade to kernel 3.17.2 on a
particular server.
Some time between 3.13 and 3.17, the bonding driver has stopped
accepting ppp devices, instead throwing an error that the MAC address
cannot be changed.
(And does not allow this to be forced)
I suspect it's unlikely.. but has anyone here encountered this issue
and found a solution?
Alternatively.. do you know where the right place to file bug report
about this would be? It's been a while since I've filed anything
against the linux kernel itself.
Cheers,
Toby
Greetings to all on the list.
I'm using CRM114 to filter all of the mail that passes the restrictions
defined in my Postfix configuration. Some spam still finds its way through.
These days, I'm relying extensively on Dovecot IMAP to enable retrieval of
mail by multiple devices (two laptops, a phone, and a tablet that could receive
mail but hasn't been configured to do so yet).
What's the best way to set up automatic retraining of messages on the server
Several options come to mind, including incron, a systemd timer unit, a cron
job. The desired effect is:
Everything that is moved into the spam folder from elsewhere is classified as
spam.
Everything moved out of the spam folder is retrained as good.
Suggestions?
Years ago I was very comfortable with a multi partition setup. But on
starting an upgrade to OpenSuse 31.2 I have discovered that the machine
needed a serious cleanout. So I tried to repartition into SWAP, /
and /home. OpenSuse recommended btrfs for / and XFS for /home. I have
used XFS for years so no problems. I allocated 20Gb for SWAP and 50Gb
for / and the balance to /home. The install has failed because it could
not format the BTRFS partition. I expect that in the process the new
partition table has been created, so maybe the historical mess is gone.
Can someone recommend a "standard" btrfs set up to save me some time,
please?

can anyone think of any reason why on one of my systems I can't login
with lightdm? as soon as I do (with any account, including a brand new
one without any weird/old/obsolete dotfiles), it seems to login OK but
then logs out again immediately.
my normal desktop environment is xfce, but the same thing happens if i
tell lightdm to use lxde or gnome or anything else.
logging in on a text VT and running startx works perfectly, and is how
i've had to login for the last few months.
I have four other very similar systems where lightdm works without a
problem, including a mythtv box set to auto-login as the mythtv user.
two of them are sysvinit, two of them are systemd.
i can't see anything in the logs to indicate any problem, even the
auth.log just shows that the session was started and then the session
terminated immediately afterwards. any hints on what to look for in
the logs or where/how to increase debug log levels would also be
appreciated.

Hi All
I have a SCSI scanner which normally "just works" under Linux. I have
just loaded a fresh OpenSuse 13.2 (64bit) OS. The scanner is found in
lspci and also in the hardware detection in Suse. For some reason XSANE
cannot see it. When using the scanner setup tool in the YAST , it
identifies the scanner but reports that the driver is not configured.
The driver should be the sane-epson2. What am I missing, please?

The scsi specifcation requires any device to be able to clearly identify
itself. This is required to get around exactly this issue.

I have an Epson Perfection 4990 Photo scanner on a USB port, it does
exactly the same thing if one cancels a scan. I have also found a reboot is
the only way to get it working again. I cannot now remember if just
disconnecting it works.
I apologise for the poor formating I have yet to purchase a modem to allow
my old email system to work properly again.

Hi Luvers,
I think LUV could have a (or more) team(s)at this event this weekend.
(see below)
If anyone is interested, ** please register and let me know **. I have
registered.
For info:
1. I will go to the idea sprint on 28 May. (Thursday).
2. Last year I went to this event (or equivalent)...and I had no idea
what it was all about before going! I just went there teamed up with 4
other people I have never ever met before and ... we actually won the
2nd Prize!! from about 12 or 15 teams. I consider we should have won
the first prize, but as it was a return ticket to USA, that made it
difficult to share between 5 of us!! ...So put it this way, if the
judging criteria is same as last year, I have a fair idea what it takes
to win a prize! (and what it takes not not win one!!)
3. If you are interested, please email me with skills you can
contribute. Note that non-techies can also be involved, infact I think
this is why we did well last year, as we had a good balanced team with
highly complementary skills.
Someone with Open Street map api skills or Google map api (or the Nokia
stuff - forgot how its called?) would also be highly useful.
People who can put up a good webfront with python/php/perl etc backend
quickly.
Someone with good communication/marketing skills also useful.
Cheers
Daniel.

Greetings,
I am pleased to announce that the Open Source Developers' Conference
2015 call for proposals is now open!
This year OSDC is coming to Hobart for the first time, and will be held
from October 27-29, at the Wrest Point Convention Centre.
The deadline for proposal submission is July 5, 2015. All you need to
provide at this stage is a brief description and abstract, so there's
still plenty of time before OSDC to prep your talk.
Speakers attend the conference for free; travel and accommodation is
still your own gig, although we may be able to make arrangements in
some special cases.
We welcome first-time speakers; this is a fun conference with a great
community. We'd love to hear what you have to say about open source,
whether it's software, hardware, data, education or government.
Please sign up at https://2015.osdc.com.au/, create a speaker profile
and propose a presentation. You can submit as many proposals as you
wish, and come back to edit them later, so why not get started today?
== Focus ==
The focus for OSDC 2015 is Opening Up For A Better World. Open source
software, hardware and standards facilitate higher quality technology,
better security and faster innovation; open data allows us to better
discover and understand the world we live in; open government aims to
ensure that citizens can participate in their democracy; open access
publishing exists to spread knowledge and allow that knowledge to be
built upon. Open by design is the best default.
== Topics ==
While we're looking for presentations related to creation or use of open
source, naturally, there are many aspects that you could address:
* Cultivating an open source community
* Showcasing a successful, or unsuccessful open source implementation
* Open source in the physical world
* Open source in education
* Open source in the business world
* Closed source in an open source world
* Open Standards and Open Data
* Open Government
These, and many more topics that are relevant to today's open source
developers are desirable to help provide a diverse range of subjects at
this years conference.
Register now at https://2015.osdc.com.au/ - we'd love to hear from you!
Please also feel free to forward this CFP to anyone else you feel may
be interested.
Cheers,
Tim
(on behalf of the OSDC 2015 team)
