Problems with google maps after firefox froze

Hi, all I have been using google maps in full mode to measure distances, Now a few weeks ago while using firefox the system froze. I did a cold reset and after that google maps will only run in lite mode. With Chromium its the, same one cannot switch maps to full mode. Now this is in itself not an issue as Googleearth works well and has better path tools, I am just curious what has changed in Debian to stop google maps switching to full mode. Glxinfo shows X still has 3D accelaration. Lindsay W

I think distro needs to have some keys that will allow it to work with UEFI. I also read somewhere they (manufacturers) will have to allow installation of alternative OS’s. If this is the case, then UEFI will not have any point. At the very worst, you will (possibly) be able to buy only certain hardware that will allow UEFI to be turned off (assuming this is permitted by some and not allowed by others). Interesting times ahead… As a side note, I believe I have encountered UEFI on Lenovo hardware in the last few months and have been able to disable it with no problems. NB: Not every laser printer will do this. Only some (as per reports). I am now aware of inkjets being affected by the same issue, nor I am aware of b&w laser printers that are ’traceable’. Ignorance is a bliss in this regard. flightgear

I just installed flightgear on a AMD64 system running Debian/Jessie. I ran it but before it did anything it took 13G of VM and 7G of resident (on a system with 8G of RAM) and the system swapped to death. Is there any way of setting it to use less RAM BEFORE it even gives it's main menu? Image view with support for geotags

Hi all, In Debian there's and image viewer (or something like that) that also displays the image information inserted by a camera. The particular app I am thinking about can be confgured to display the latitude and longitude from the geotags, unfortunately I have forgoten its name. Anyone know of it please. What I am requireing is an image viewer that will display the geotag data in some format. Lindsay

Many thanks for the replies, What I did was just put up a post saying Firefox was required. There was half dozen responses saying no problems, no one replied it was not acceptable. The slide show now has been up now for around 8 hours there have been more than 30 downloads and no one has said anything, so it must be OK. My experience on such things is that people will complain if theres a problem but most will say nothing if its OK, ie one needs to consider it a broadcast situation. If feedback is required the audience will have to be pressed in some way. A classic method widely used particularly in broadcast radio is to broadcast a delibrate mistake. I have used this in the past under similiar situations, works perfectly. Lindsay

S5 Slide show works OK under Mozilla but not on Explorer

Hi all, I am putting together a slide show of a large engineering project. S5 is the framework being used "http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/". The slide works great under Firefox, but its quite unexecptable under Microsofts Explorer. As the majority of the target audence would almost certainly be running windows, I appear to have a problem. THe way the slide show works is one changes frames with the page up/down keys. The frame is divided into three sections. The top section containing the comments to go with the image, the middle portion is the image, the lower section containing the overall title. Explorer takes no notice of this formating, not even using the selected fonts just displays a series of images with text in between them using whatever default font Exlploer has. Unfortunately although now running Linux for around 20 years I no nothing about web programming, or in this case xhtml and css what ever they are? :-(. Anything I can do? Help would very much be apreciated. Lindsay

Thanks for the reply, I am familiar with qeeqie, its a good app for images but it does not display the GPS IFD from the exif data. Note 1. I have found an answer though, slightly unfortunately it does not appear to be in Debian, its the Java app "geotag". Availible from......... http://sourceforge.net/projects/geotag/ It uses googleearth via the Chromium browser to display the geo tag position, works great. For install info see........ http://geotag.sourceforge.net/QuickStart/ One of course needs both chromium and googleearth installed. Lindsay Note 1: I use a Nikon D700 with the GPS1 attachment that automaticly tags the image with its current GPS data when you take a shot. A REAL great asset I may say.
