I was able to log in via the portal and once I'd registered the meter via the ID on a power bill, I was able to enter the Raven's MAC and another key from the device, at which point the meter and the RAVEn were paired and data began to flow. I'm using a script based on the one Ashley mentioned ( https://github.com/frankp/python-raven/blob/master/raven_script.py) I'm just getting my head around what data is produced, but it's all there and all available. Having solar panels on the roof causes out Instantaneous Demand figure to get really thrown out of whack, so I still have some hacking to do before I get a set of figures I'm happy enough to rely on. Good for exercising the very rusty Python skills ! I'll also happily receive pointers to any existing wheels so I am not re-inventing them ! Ultimately I plan to feed figures into RRDtool or similar to produce graphs. It is interesting how sensitive the readings are. I had it running and tailing the log file last night and it was quite easy to see the effects of turning lights, the TV and electric kettle on and off. Configuration and automation query

Hi all, I have a question about merging default configurations with own changes. As an example, take an apache configuration. The default configuration may change, according to best practice(e.g. which encryption protocols are safe to use etc). so you are happy to use whatever the package provides (if it is well-maintained) However, some things you may not like, say: the "PermitRootLogin yes" line. [Okay, the example has a bit of a "design fault" because Apache configs have include statements etc. - but there are examples without, as ntp.conf, and some do not like to have two lines of the same key which are conflicting - so you really have to replace the default with yours. I just wanted to give this as an example you may familiar with] So, for the sake of this example, assume all is written in one httpd.conf (no includes) and you are not allowed to have two lines as PermitRootLogin yes PermitRootLogin no How do you keep track of the "latest changes" in default configuration while making the changes you really want? I wonder especially in the context of automation where you may run it on many instances without manual invervention. My solution at the moment is: 1st install: - backup default (copies etc/htttpd.conf to httpd.conf.defaults) - update_config (e.g. parses the defaults with awk and replaces PermitRootLogin "yes by "no"[simplified]: awk '{if $1=="PermitRootLogin") print $1" no"; else print}' Update: - backup $version (just in case..) - restore default (copies etc/htttpd.conf.default to httpd.conf so the upgrade finds a pristine config) - package upgrade - update_config (as before) The advantage of this: update_config can do a lot of things, including using system-specific variables (e.g. getting an IP address from the system so you tell the system to listen on this IP only - no localhost: "Listen IPAddress:80"). A "diff" can be used to monitor unexpected changes afterwards (the diff should oonly show the xpected lines) , to alarm me if things are not right. I wonder whether there is any better support from configuration management tools you are using. Thank you Peter

USB-powered Ethernet to Wireless adapter

Hi all, I want to reanimate an old HP netbook (my other laptop died) but the wireless does not seem to work. (I will try again tonight after FreeBSD upgrade from 10 to 11, but I failed with 10 a while ago. Some firmware issue I could not figure out. In theory it should work but..It seems to be tricky with Linux too, according to some forum questions I found on the Web) Anyway, the Ethernet is working but it does not help me when travelling. Usually I am using my phone as a hotspot so I need a USB-powered Ethernet to Wireless adapter. (I do not want straight USB to Wireless because then I have the problem of supported/unsupported etc. again). Browsing yesterday I found a few devices (e.g. TL-WR802N, http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-9_TL-WR802N.html) Do you use this or other devices and can recommend it? Local availability would be a bonus, so I can just walk into a shop, e.g. JayCar, and pick it up today. Thanks Peter

Apache FilesMatch and RegEx

Hi all, Could anybody point me in the right direction re a regular expression I try to implement as a <FilesMatch> directive in Apache 2.4 please? I would like to deny access to any files in a specific directory which file extension is not "whitelisted". The rule should be case insensitive. <Directory ... > <FilesMatch [WHITELIST] > Require all denied </FilesMatch> </Directory> I tried the following as [WHITELIST], but to no avail: "(?<!\.png|\.gif|\.jp?g)$" -> works, but is case insensitive "(?i:<!\.(png|gif|jp?g))$" -> does not match anything !"(?i:\.(png|gif|jp?g))$" -> does not match anything "(?i:<!\.png|\.gif|\.jp?g)$" -> does exactly the opposite (not negated) ...plus 100 combination, which all result in parsing errors :-) My understanding is, that ?i: means case insensitive and <! negates the expression. Any idea what am I doing wrong or how to achieve what I outlined above? Many thanks Michael

RE: iptables error message.

Dear All, I have a "iptables script file" which I copied from the net that work for years, it stopped working yesterday after I upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to 16.10. I am a beginner so the only way for me to diagnose the problem is to comment out line by line to see what cause the problems, my finding as follows; 482 $IPTABLES -A INPUT -i $EXTIF -s $UNIVERSE -d $EXTIP -m state --state \ 483 ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT error message; Bad argument `state' offending line; 527 $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -o $INTIF -s $EXTIP -d $INTNET -j ACCEPT error message; Bad argument `192.168.0.0/24' offending line; 542 $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -o $EXTIF -s $EXTIP -d $UNIVERSE -j ACCEPT error message; Bad argument `0.0.0.0/0' offending line; 592 $IPTABLES -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o $EXTIF -j SNAT --to $EXTIP error message; iptables v1.6.0: option "--to" requires an argument Also, variables INTNET=”192.168.0.0/24” and UNIVERSE=”0.0.0.0/0” I have searched the net for answers but most of them indicate something like "miss typing" etc. However, as the file work fine up to Ubuntu 16.04 (I have not touch the file in any way) so something must have changed in 16.10 and I am out of ideas. Open source 3D printers for sale (used)

Hey folks, As you may have seen in another thread discussing finding new homes for hardware, we're looking to sell off cheaply our little 3D printers as we haven't used them for over a year now. We know we have 4 of them, but we're currently searching our storage shed for the cases with 2 of them (2 are immediately available). The reason we're listing them here on this mailing list is because these printers are Printrbot Jr 3D printers, that utilise the RepRap "Marlin" firmware (open), and the design is somewhat open (I'm a little confused as I believe when we purchased them the design was fully open, but I see here that it's a creative commons license of some sort here: http://printrbot.com/2014/03/17/printrbot-jr-v2-files-are-available-non-com… Marlin firmware info (GNU v3): http://reprap.org/wiki/Marlin These Printrbot Jr printers are well kept (serviced by us often when in use) and we got great use out of them. They fold down so that they can fit inside a briefcase. We used them primarily with education, demonstrations, and touring/residencies because of the small form factor, and ease of accessing the mechanisms (vital when you're in a remote area). Because they use the very popular open Marlin RepRap firmware you can use many different software slicers, but we used "Slic3r" to slice, and "Pronterface" to print with (we only use Linux so these tools worked well under Linux). We have had for the past couple of years 3 x Makerbot Replicator 2 printers that we primarily use so the Printrbot Jr's don't get touched much anymore. For those in the know, here are some details: Filament type: PLA Filament diameter: 1.75mm Firmware: Marlin Nozzle Diameter: 0.4mm Upgrades: Fans, removable fan mount, and power plugs (PWM controlled onboard) Maximum print size: 150mm x 100mm x 100mm Included with each printer: 1 x Printrbot Jr 3D printer 1 x Reel roller (made by Printrbot) 1 x Wooden filament reel (made by Printrbot) 1 x Plastic reel that fits roller (small amount of filament on it) 1 x Fan upgrade 1 x Power supply and IEC lead 1 x USB cable We'd be looking for $400 for each of them (4 in total) as they're in very serviceable condition and print very well (I think we got them for around $700 each originally plus the fan add ons and accessories etc). Let me know if you need to know more info (or to see pictures), we're based around Ballarat, but travel to Melbourne a couple of times a week so we'd be happy to drop it off if you're not too far away, or meet somewhere in Melbourne.
