Evening all,
I want to setup a new MythTV media computer as a present and I'm
looking for a hassle free HD TV Tuner that I can buy in Australia.
The last few I've bought have required binary blob drivers or
load-on-use firmware and have painful reliability issues as a result.
I'm after something I can plug in, maybe at worst compile some
libraries, and then expect to work well forever. I'd prefer an
internal card though ease of use will win in my choice and a LIRC
compatible remote control would be a bonus.
I am well aware of the wiki lists of 'compatible' cards and used the
V4L one for my last two purchases which turned out to be rubbish.
So is anyone aware of a tuner card they can recommend that meet my
requirements?
Thanks guys,
Edward
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to buy jeans?
I visited Jeans West a couple of days ago but the pockets in their jeans are
too small. My Samsung Galaxy S took up the entire space in one pocket (the
top of the phone was just below the top of the pocket). This compares poorly
to my current pair of jeans which can fit a Nexus 7 tablet in the pocket.
Admittedly the Nexus 7 isn't a comfortable fit, but it illustrates the options
available.

I have no idea where I bought my current pair of jeans, so I can't buy another
the same. Also I don't really need pockets big enough for a tablet. A pocket
the correct size for a Galaxy Note would be fairly ideal.
Any ideas other than getting a regular pair of jeans altered?

Hi All,
I've tried isohunt.com
I've tried
www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?distro=desktop&release=lts&bits=32
I've tried btmon.com
I've even tried cdimage.ubuntu.com/precise/dvd/current/
Which (a) doesn't clarify whether it's desktop or server, (b) says it's
12.04 not 12.04.1 and (c) is 1 week old -- before 12.04.1 was officially
released.
Can anyone point me to an iso torrent or download for yesterday's
official release of:
Ubuntu 12.04.1 Desktop for 32-bit Intel PCs.
Thanks very much.

p.s. Maybe I should just be patient and wait another day.
I was one of the people who bought a tablet from ZaReason after seeing a
post about it on this list.
I received the tablet a week ago. It does not fit my needs.
If anyone wants to take it off my hands for the cost ($425.15) please
contact me off-list. It also includes a 32GB microSD card.
Thanks,
Sam

Hi All,
After essentially 2 years of unemployment, today I =finally= landed a
temp part-time job with a small company. Yay!
I'd like to run a quick and dirty survey. Sort of a side-service to
them, off my own bat. Those of you who create and maintain websites are
among the best to ask.
Regarding their current website...
www.tripstop.net
...how would you rate its overall quality, on a scale of
1 = terrible
5 = average
10 = excellent
Probably replying to me directly, off-list, would keep the list traffic
level appropriate.
You don't have to read through the whole thing. Just a page or two
would be fine. No need for any detailed responses. Just a gut feel.
Sending me the number alone would be adequate.
If you would think in terms of visual appeal, ease of use, getting the
message across, navigability, readability, etc. that's my focus.
If you want to send any comments or suggestions too, that's fine.
Thank you VERY much, and sorry if this topic was not suitable to the list.

Hi,
I haven't followed the Refugee Rights thread very closely, so don't know
if these things have already been raised yet...
(1) Australia scores second in the Human Development Index...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index
(2) Australia scores =sixth= in the Democracy Index...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index
Note: I migrated here legally 27 years ago from the USA, and have never
regretted it for a minute. But it's only logical. I'm a member of
Mensa, am almost 60, and have a slew of degrees and diplomas.
(3) I believe the underlying cause of so much suffering and hardship is
world-wide overpopulation...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overpopulation
Let's see if any of =these= things stir up debate among LUV-Talk.
Cheers,
Carl

Yes. Thank you Rohan.
All I am asking for is "Here is my proposed policy, and here is the
evidence I have seriously thought through the consequences, including
indirect consequences".
Not "It is obvious that accepting anyone who shows up is the RIGHT THING
TO DO and therefore the consequences must be OK".
Not "Here is evidence Tony Abbott is a hypocrite and a liar!!!!!!!!!!".
I am 57 years old. I am well aware that the vast majority of politicians
are talented and experienced liars and thieves.
Russel Coker said: "As previous analysis on this list has shown the cost
would be less than the current policy no matter what you do." Can you
point me at this "previous analysis"? I could not readily find it. As I
said in my first post I did search in vain for evidence of a
well-thought out alternative policy.
As regards immigration as a solution to the so-called demographic time
bomb, the studies I have seen suggest that the level of immigration
required to substantially change this situation are extremely high and
is not in prospect. Our current policies based on paying pensions using
high population growth are basically a Ponzi scheme that must come to an
end.
I included the material by Charlie Munger as an *example* of second
order effects. [Munger has made billions of dollars by understanding
them. Whatever you might say about him, he is not silly and he is a lot
smarted than most of the people on this list but that is not relevant to
the issue of refugees].

Just wandering if anybody had any advice on a good place to advertise
for a Linux sysadmin (other than seek.com.au).
