Linux techies talking global sociology

Hi, I haven't followed the Refugee Rights thread very closely, so don't know if these things have already been raised yet... (1) Australia scores second in the Human Development Index... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index (2) Australia scores =sixth= in the Democracy Index... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index Note: I migrated here legally 27 years ago from the USA, and have never regretted it for a minute. But it's only logical. I'm a member of Mensa, am almost 60, and have a slew of degrees and diplomas. (3) I believe the underlying cause of so much suffering and hardship is world-wide overpopulation... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overpopulation Let's see if any of =these= things stir up debate among LUV-Talk. Cheers, Carl

Interesting to see the variation between the 10 most developed countries, and the ten least developed ones per region, as for our region: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index#As... and Europe directly below. According to Wikipedia Oceania has 36 Million people, and ca. 25 Million of them live in Australia and New Zealand. Brent, I think I have a slight idea of what you mean with the complexity of a place as Papua Neuguinea.. obviously we still have a problem with our own Indigenous population, and it is not just black & white.. Don't we have any chance to get that improved? BTW: I read a Taiwanese magazine a while ago, describing efforts to improve the education of their indigenous population. Places change but the problems are amazingly similar. Regards Peter
