I have totem 3.0.1 and libgstreamer0.10-0 installed, and youtube & other
videos play fine, but an emailed apple-flavoured clip:
$ file Desktop/IMG_8015.MOV
Desktop/IMG_8015.MOV: ISO Media, Apple QuickTime movie
shows only as grey/green/white diagonal bands, although the audio
replays fine. Totem shows the properties of the clip as:
Dimensions: 568 x 320
Codec: H.264 / AVC
Framerate: 30 frames per second
Bitrate: 701 kbps
Installing mplayer2 was the first fix which worked. Is totem not up to
playing Apple clips, or does it just need a config tweak / plugin ?
The totem version might not be the latest - I'm on Debian 7.8.0.

Hi Guys,
So i've approached the committee to run a networking presentation of
some form. However before I begin planning for this, i'd like understand
what knowledge is lacking out there in the group. As i'm sure you can
imagine, there are a lot of parts to networking.
My background so you can see if anything here interests you -
I have a good ISP background, in which I have worked on networks
both small and large.
Through this I have a good knowledge of DSL based services and GPON
(This is what NBN runs on).
Broadband and PPP Services inc PPPoE and PPPoL2TP
I also have a good knowledge of routing protocols such as IS-IS and
BGP, and MPLS.
Obviously throughout this I have general networking knowledge such
as, subnetting, network design, troubleshooting, Quality of Service etc.
Now the point of this email is that I want to understand what you want.
Below are some ideas that I have for topics, but feel free to comment or
add any that you would like.
- Networking 101 - Fundamentals including subnetting, OSI Model, packet
analysis and troubleshooting
- Networking in the home. Internal networking, ADSL networking
- Quality of Service - Packet marking, shaping and queuing
Let me know your thoughts,
Cheers,
Fraser
I've just enabled SPF checks on the LUV mail server.
There is no good reason for anyone to use a forwarding service to send mail to
the LUV lists. Therefore there is no reason for valid mail to fail SPF
checks.
We have had problems of spammers sending mail to list servers that impersonate
the from field of a prominent member of the Linux community who uses SPF. Such
spam won't go to the LUV lists.

Tonight's meeting starts 18:30 as usual. The calendar on my phone incorrectly
says that it starts at 19:30 due to a bug related to daylight savings time
(not sure if the bug is in the web site, Android, or Google Calendar). I
presume that other people have phones with the same issue.
I'm sure that the problem will be fixed before next month's meeting.

It _should_ be a permissions problem, I had the same issue sometime ago and
I had to add my user to the plugdev group then restart adb
