Library of LUV is a collection of books available for loan to members. The canonical list of library books is now at our LibraryThing, including the current location of the book (if blank, it's with the committee). http://www.librarything.com/catalog/luv.asn.au/ Please note that some of this list hasn't been updated for quite a while. If there is an incorrect entry please let us know. If you've had a book borrowed for "a while", please consider returning it at the next meeting. Really, a year is too long. Share the luv. The LUV Wiki page LoLbooks provides a queue of people who want to borrow a book. http://wiki.luv.asn.au/LoLbooks You need to login to the wiki before you can edit pages. Your wiki login is identical to the main LUV website login. If you don't have an account on the main website you can create one. If there isn't a queue, start one and message the person who has the book - which may be the librarian. Use the "E-mail this user" facility on their user page to message them. If that doesn't work, you could contact the luv-ctte. Books loaned out for a month at a time, but can be renewed at the end of month if there's nobody in the queue. There is a hard limit of a year however. After that you should have read it! If you have some reasonably useful Linux-related books that you wish to donate to the library please do so. Link: http://luv.asn.au/meetings/map * Andrew Robinson, R: A Statistical Package on Linux * Julien Goodwin, Networking things all Systems Administrators should know Andrew Robinson is a senior lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne, and on the Management Executive Committee of the Australian Centre of Excellence for Risk Analysis. He is the co-author of the books, Introduction to Scientific Programming and Simulation Using R, and Forest Analytics with R: An Introduction. Julien Goodwin is a Network Engineer at Google Sydney, working day-to-day maintaining one of the worlds largest IP networks. In the past he has worked as a (primarily Linux) Sys Admin on educational networks, and in small businesses. He has a long history working with the Australian FOSS community and was former LUV committee member and a member of the LCA2008 team. His talk covers the basics and "gotchas" of seven small aspects of networking, from weird things that can happen with traceroute, how broadband access networks work, how large scale Internet services use tools like anycast and DNS to share load, why NAT is not a security measure, and why IPv6 is so simple to deploy you're probably already running it. Mike has B.Sc. in Engineering Science from Warwick University in the UK, and has 30 years of experience in software development, including real time monitoring systems, communications protocols and web and database technologies. * Andrew Bartlett, "The Samba 4.0 Release" Andrew Bartlett has been a Samba developer for over 12 years, working particularly on authentication systems. He is incredibly proad of the recent release of Samba 4.0, the world's first Free Software Active Directory Domain Controller.
