Russell Coker, encryption and authentication with LetsEncrypt and TOR
Russell will be talking about and demonstrating the latest options for
encryption and authentication of the web with LetsEncrypt and TOR hidden
services. Learn how to get a free certificate for your domain!
Russell has done lots of Linux development over the years, mostly
involved with Debian.
Andrew Pam, the best talks of the LCA2016 conference
LUV members who attended this year's conference in Geelong will discuss
our favourite talks and probably show some video.
Andrew Pam first discovered an interest in boolean logic when his mother
carried him in her arms at just the right height to reach light switches
as they passed through doorways. He was lucky enough to go to a school
with an obsolete PDP/8e: switches, lights, core memory, paper tape,
punched cards and all. He first started programming on a TRS-80 model 1
level I and the first computer he owned was a Commodore VIC-20. He has
run the gaming Miniconference at linux.conf.au in the past and enjoys
playing computer games on Linux systems. He is the current president of
Linux Users of Victoria.

LUV member Ben Dechrai asked me to pass on an invitation to a free event
he's organising this Thursday:
BuzzConf runs future-of-tech events around Australia, and on Thursday
25th February, BuzzConf Nights Melbourne will see three talks on virtual
reality, artificial intelligence, and how maker spaces have
revolutionised innovation.
The talks are followed by networking opportunities and musical
entertainment into the evening.
It's a free event, and we request people RSVP at
http://www.meetup.com/BuzzConf/events/228688704/
Thanks in advance!

Daniel Jitnah will talk about how you can set up a video monitoring
system using Linux software. He will demonstrate setups using a webcam
and an ipcam. The software used will be Zoneminder and VLC. He will
demonstrate installation of Zoneminder and configuration, and also how
to override a current bug in the current Zoneminder Ubuntu package. He
will also demonstrate some interfacing with VLC scripts.
Daniel is currently secretary of LUV. He has a particular interest in
free software in education, and has been using Linux for over 15 years
as his main operating system. He claims to have never used a Microsoft
OS on any of his machines as main OS.
There will also be the usual casual hands-on workshop, Linux
installation, configuration and assistance and advice. Bring your laptop
if you need help with a particular issue.
LUV would like to acknowledge Red Hat <http://redhat.com.au/> for their
help in obtaining the Trinity College venue and Infoxchange
