Slow down problem with SSD boot drives ?

Assembled illuminati; whilst purchasing some second hand 4GB DDR3 240 pin RAM sticks ; at Dan IC Design and SYnthesis Computer Equipment--Home &/or Small Business - Springvale, VIC 50 Garnsworthy St, Springvale VIC 3171 We started discussing SSD boot drives and it was suggested that SSD boot drives with both sata 3.0 and PCIe interfaces suffer from a fairly severe slow-down problem after about 6 - 12months use. 1/ Has anyone noticed such a problem ? 2/ If such problem exists any theories ? - all I could think was that somehow boot drives were subject to extreme wear and the reallocated 'cells' were at the end and somehow the replacement 'out-of-sequence' cells; were slowing the drive down in the manner of a fragmented rotating drive ? regards Rohan McLeod

Given that yesterday there was his budget reply, it is amazing how the Herald Sun can send it as a little article to page 7 or 9, sorry, I did not look which number it was - but it's practically "buried" and has probably a quarter of a page. Compare that to the coverage Abbott had as opposition leader. Does the budget reply matter for anyone in Australia? Maybe.. As said, there is the end of free Healthcare, and the punishing of young unemployed - all, by the way, mentioned by Shorten in a speech that was one worth listening to - because it was not much biting at Abbott, more concentrating on facts and impact for Australians. If you are unemployed and not in education and below 30, you do not get any money. Does it matter? We have two apprentices here, in their 3rd year I think. They both come from problematic family back ground and are happy to have found work and qualification. E.g. they do not touch alcohol - they have seen what it did to their parents. The company is going soso, smaller factory in the automotive industry... just imagine we fail and they are jobless tomorrow. No support from home, no support from us via Centrelink, I guess they did not save much from their money they got as apprentices: What chances do they have? What are their options? Do we go back to convict people for stealing bread? Or is it a heartless ploy to argue next for an abolition of the minimal wage? One step closer to Gina's $2 a day slave labour because we create a desperate underclass now? How do you justify the cut? The Liberals sound like we are in the Great Depression, not in one of the richest countries on Earth, with more than 20 years without recession and with comparable low public debt - Shorten is right to point out that we one of only eight countries worldwide with AAA credit rating. But there is no public discussion. If the safety net is too expensive now, in one of the richest country on Earth, what will happen if Australia finally goes into a recession? And will it hit you? This is a tale of many things and of many errors. (original post is below) I am cc'ing this to luv-talk, as it is not a Linux issue. Please respond on luv-talk if you wish to. It appears that at some stage in the last few months, the original domain registrar and dns hosting of this user was taken over by another [bigger] registrar (if you know anything about this having happened lately, you may know who is involved). In this process though it seems that the dns record of the email server was changed, unknown to the user (at least the user has no record of this). While the MX still pointed to the users own server (physically located in their office), the outgoing smtp server was redirected to the hosting provider's own smtp server, rather than the original clients email server as an A record. (mail.example.com.au) For some reason also, the hosting provider blocked external IP of the user's office a few days ago, causing smtp to stop. (apparently because they detected unusual activity coming from that IP) So while the client was able to access smtp services outside the office, they could not do so from inside inside, but when using the ip of the internal server they could access smtp (but a different server). My question is, does any one know if its a known practice for a dns hosting provider to change a record to a smtp server to point to their own, and that without informing the user? (it is still possible that the user was informed but did not make a record of this). Contacting the dns hosting provider, they only said everything is fine on their side, and could give no more info. BTW: this changed was discovered when I noted that in email coming from outside the header showed that it was processed by an Exim smtp server, where as the users one is actually a Postfix one. Melbourne transport gets more bizarre?

Hi all, I wonder what it takes to stop our government wasting billions of dollars whch do not make any sense at all. The East West Link, okay, I think I wrote about that peace that will "fast-track" road traffic between crowded streets, as Eastern Freeway, Hoddle Street and the Tullamarine Freeway. All of them are overcrowded stop-and-go traffic roads at peak hours and you may have fast traffic between them if the cars entering the East West Link magically disappear without re-entering crowded streets on the other end. A black hole may do, probably. (My view is backed by the leaked impact studies we are officially not allowed to see, btw) Obviously the same logic will apply for the Metro Rail Tunnel announced today. When I take the train from my workplace to the CBD, from Macaulay (Upfield line) or Kensington station (Cragieburn line), I spent usually ca. 15 minutes (for ca. 5km) because the tracks around North Melbourne and Southern Cross are overcrowded and the trains all "park" for minutes inbetween. The "re-engineered" Metro Rail will not enter the tunnel north of the CBD, instead it is planned to go from South Yarra via Domain to Fishermans Bend and... voila - appear at Southern Cross. From there a new Airport Link will go through Footscray and Sunshine - so will leave Southern Cross the "North Melbourne" way. What a pity that it is already overcrowded there.. It looks, in the same manner Naphtine glossed over the details of the East West Link, it is a "bright" idea thatsome how fixes itself while building. For the East West Link it means most likely further damage to Royal Park as firstly admitted, and I have no idea with what kind of inventive methods they come up when building the rail lines. I consider this here extremely bizarre, and Melbournians get next to nothing for 25 billion dollars and more.. [cutting out here the private-public partnership where we spent more over time, locked in the budgets for 20/30 years, than if we would borrow and repay using bonds.. so far for "surpluses" achieved by creative accounting] A freeway to "complete" a network may look good, an airport link too - but I cannot see much value in it, definitely not one worth the biggest investment items for Melbourne for the next 10 years and burdening the budget for a few decades. There was planning before, it just gets thrown out and replaced by somebold strokes over a map by some West Victorian cowboys who may know how to build a road in Collac or Warrnambool but do not make any sense if it comes to serve transport in a multi-million people city. At the moment I take the bike, having a few minutes of tranquility along the Mooney Ponds Creek while being faster than car or train/tram between Port Melbourne and Kensington. Well, the green side of the creek will be replaced by another four lane road soon, thanks to East West Link. That's a bonus I get for the 16 billion dollars.. I wonder whether it is actually possible to inform Victorians about this. I am pretty sure the majority of the people have never heard about the "logic" of these projects. Furthermore, is it possible to have planning and construction in Melbourne that makes sense? Regards Peter

unpatched MS Windows 8.1 vulnerable to Openssl 'Heartbleed'

I run a windows machine at home, and had a security update to install. Reading MS's notes on the upgrade [0] [1], I was surprised to see that it is a patch for Openssl, which is used in a Junos VPN client [2] that is embedded in installation of Windows 8.1. I wonder how many other VPN endpoints there are out there, still running vulnerable versions of openssl.
