Hi all Yes this is a lecture - deal with it. Some things need saying. When someone decides to unsub from a list, things tend to be well beyond problematic. It's not the time to argue with them over the validity of their move, or the semantics of what constitutes name calling and who did what. The atmosphere has gone sour and continuing to argue on whatever aspect of it merely indicates that you're not getting that point - which is possibly also the origin of the problem. Bianca Gibson is an awesome member of the open source community, and if she decides to make this moves you can be assured that various other less outspoken people have also disconnected (not don't go off checking the unsubs to nerd-argue with me, as that would again miss the point). Losing anyone from our community, particularly for these reasons, is a bad thing. It is very important we are inclusive and accepting as a group. If it's "just" luv-talk people unsub from rather than all of LUV, you may consider yourself lucky, and it'd be an opportunity for a second chance - show those people in the other lists and at live events that you're a sensible individual who positively contributes. Our community has people of many different skills and skill levels. Yes some of us spell better than others. You can offer suggestions and help, just don't bet a jerk about it. And in terms of politics... while overall we're probably more on the progressive end, there'll still be a wide range of viewpoints. Making sweeping statements about people in the context of a broader group tends to be fairly uncool as well as regarded as extremely unfair - so just don't do that. I think it's cool to discuss politics online, just remember that email and online communication lacks the instant feedback that tends to keep live chats within sensible boundaries - and politics are, particularly now, of course a hot topic. Everybody has very strong opinions, and that's not a bad thing. Even when you feel (or know!) you're right about something, if you tick off everybody in the group by you blatting them over the head with it, what's the use? If you tone it down a bit, you may have more and longer opportunity to interact with the people with whom you currently disagree - and perhaps, who knows, you might convince them later with your insights and thoughtful contributions. Please axe the East West Link. The Link was never the best next transport project for Melbourne, is poorly planned and is destroying park land that is there as long as the Colac Botanical Garden next to your home. It is a dude, the business plan so weak that you not even dare to publish it, and not even in sync with your own proposals before the last election. I also have a problem to understand why $50 billion for National Broadband is a waste while $16 billion for one local road is money well spent. Please start to work in the interest of Victorians, not in the interest of construction companies and financial institutions. My wife started economics in New Zealand. She gets utterly confused these days. She learnt that the GDP is only part of our well-being, looking after the young, the sick and the elderly is important too. I think that is in our interest too. That sounds like an cornerstone of the budget.. I am impressed. The question is whether you let this fig leaf pass or show it as it is: a fig leaf to hide that it is a budget to ensure that the rich get richer and the poor poorer.. This levy is, as the biology research fund, a last minute stunt to justify what the Coalition is doing. There is no seriousness in this. Just look at the last months of decision making. My family at the kitchen table has more logical discussions than that. All was "utterly nonsense" one day and next day in the budget, this levy started at $80 000 one day and $180 000 two later, there was "no $70 billion black hole" in their promises and on the sudden we had a budget emergency, we cannot afford NBN and then we have $20 billion for medical research, we have problems with Medicare and than on the sudden we do not pay for Medicare, we pay for research, there are no cuts to education and than education is not Federal so the States have to run it, on the sudden we have schools again and have $250 million dollars for school chaplans financed by the Commonwealth.. Sounded very much like the adults are back in government.. They know what they are doing - they just have to create a smokescreen big enough to ensure that enough people vote for them - despite stealing the money from our pockets. But this fire may to big, hopefully, even for Murdoch's Own Country. By accident I saw "Two men in China" after the budget night. There were ex-pats mourning the ignorance shown recently to invest in our relationship which China, even when Australians were first when China opened. There were reports of Chinese praising the Australians engineering efficient wind farms etc. There were 2 men asking: what else can Australia trade with China besides of the obvious: our soil? Can you imagine what the current government will do in this regard? The axing of support for solar energy and wind farms? The cut for the Australia Network run by the ABC? The truth is: there is no interest in investing in anything here. Just cut and give Gina her $2 slave labour. Forget the medical research. It's there to introduce you to the end of free health care in Australia. Unis for research? First, they are good for selling degrees for the ones that can pay. And create private unis. Because the money should always go to the rich. It's just wasted on the poor. Just ask your Minister for Science. Oops, we do not have one.. Regards Peter

Slow down problem with SSD boot drives ?

Assembled illuminati; whilst purchasing some second hand 4GB DDR3 240 pin RAM sticks ; at Dan IC Design and SYnthesis Computer Equipment--Home &/or Small Business - Springvale, VIC 50 Garnsworthy St, Springvale VIC 3171 We started discussing SSD boot drives and it was suggested that SSD boot drives with both sata 3.0 and PCIe interfaces suffer from a fairly severe slow-down problem after about 6 - 12months use. 1/ Has anyone noticed such a problem ? 2/ If such problem exists any theories ? - all I could think was that somehow boot drives were subject to extreme wear and the reallocated 'cells' were at the end and somehow the replacement 'out-of-sequence' cells; were slowing the drive down in the manner of a fragmented rotating drive ? regards Rohan McLeod

As said, there is the end of free Healthcare, and the punishing of young unemployed - all, by the way, mentioned by Shorten in a speech that was one worth listening to - because it was not much biting at Abbott, more concentrating on facts and impact for Australians. If you are unemployed and not in education and below 30, you do not get any money. Does it matter? We have two apprentices here, in their 3rd year I think. They both come from problematic family back ground and are happy to have found work and qualification. E.g. they do not touch alcohol - they have seen what it did to their parents. The company is going soso, smaller factory in the automotive industry... just imagine we fail and they are jobless tomorrow. No support from home, no support from us via Centrelink, I guess they did not save much from their money they got as apprentices: What chances do they have? What are their options? Do we go back to convict people for stealing bread? Or is it a heartless ploy to argue next for an abolition of the minimal wage? One step closer to Gina's $2 a day slave labour because we create a desperate underclass now? How do you justify the cut? The Liberals sound like we are in the Great Depression, not in one of the richest countries on Earth, with more than 20 years without recession and with comparable low public debt - Shorten is right to point out that we one of only eight countries worldwide with AAA credit rating. But there is no public discussion. If the safety net is too expensive now, in one of the richest country on Earth, what will happen if Australia finally goes into a recession? And will it hit you? This is a tale of many things and of many errors. (original post is below) I am cc'ing this to luv-talk, as it is not a Linux issue. Please respond on luv-talk if you wish to. It appears that at some stage in the last few months, the original domain registrar and dns hosting of this user was taken over by another [bigger] registrar (if you know anything about this having happened lately, you may know who is involved). In this process though it seems that the dns record of the email server was changed, unknown to the user (at least the user has no record of this). While the MX still pointed to the users own server (physically located in their office), the outgoing smtp server was redirected to the hosting provider's own smtp server, rather than the original clients email server as an A record. (mail.example.com.au) For some reason also, the hosting provider blocked external IP of the user's office a few days ago, causing smtp to stop. (apparently because they detected unusual activity coming from that IP) So while the client was able to access smtp services outside the office, they could not do so from inside inside, but when using the ip of the internal server they could access smtp (but a different server). My question is, does any one know if its a known practice for a dns hosting provider to change a record to a smtp server to point to their own, and that without informing the user? (it is still possible that the user was informed but did not make a record of this). Contacting the dns hosting provider, they only said everything is fine on their side, and could give no more info. BTW: this changed was discovered when I noted that in email coming from outside the header showed that it was processed by an Exim smtp server, where as the users one is actually a Postfix one.
