I'm currently completing a survey for someone's psychology research. One of
the questions is "I would never try to get away with using pay-for-use WiFi
Internet access if I hadn't actually paid for it".
I've done more than a few surveys and it's the first time I've seen a question
like that!
IP over DNS works almost everywhere and the "iodine" implementation while a
little clunky works well. It also gives you more than 20 minutes at
McDonalds.

Hi All,
This the best forum for such a question?
I'm using Ubuntu Lucid (until July, when I'll go over to Precise).
Wondering if there's any sort of terminal command parameter for apt, or
menu option in Synaptic, where I can get a dump or list of every package
currently installed in my laptop Lucid system? But wait, there's more...
I want to =use= this list to "synchronise" with my desktop Lucid, which
has been in storage for 9 months.
i.e. I want to use the output of my laptop to tell apt or Synaptic to
install all those programs not already on the desktop. There will be
some already installed, obviously.
I'd update all packages on both systems first.
This is a potential time-saver, compared to doing it manually.
Have searched and researched, but can't figure it out.
Thanks,

As with it's subject, the few reviews I've read of this doco cover a wide spectrum of opinions. Apparently the aim was to show the Haight-Ashbury based hippy/freaks movement influenced nearby Silicon Valley's push to spread computers from big Govt, military & corporations into homes & small businesses.
Perhaps comparable to John Markoff's book
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_the_Dormouse_Said & the doco made of that.

I'm not impressed by the newspaper description that refers yet again to Apple supposedly having started in a garage. It takes real effort to be less accurate than Wikipedia but our glorious professional mass-media do it every-time on this subject!
Hi All,
My apologies if this is too off-topic.
Just back after 5 years overseas, and new to the whole Freeview
Australia phenomenon.
Wondering if any LUV members are also ham radio enthusiasts, or well
into audio-visual issues?
I'd like to chat off-list about such things as endorsed vs unendorsed
set top boxes, satellite rather than terrestrial receivers, limitations
on saving broadcasts, transferring data to (Linux) computers, receiving
other channels from the same (or other) satellites (e.g. Al Jazeera, BBC).
Thank you,

In Australia I think that all churches would support every slave who testifies
against their owner in court. I think that a reasonable interpretation of our
laws regarding self-defense would also allow a slave to kill their owner in
order to escape.
The majority of Australia's population declare themselves to be Christian,
that means most police, most judges, and most members of juries. None of them
seem to think that slaves should respect their owners.
Advocating that slaves respect their owners IS advocating slavery.

You proved Dan Savage's point.

I have a smartphone. It's new and shiny, and I have no idea what to do
with it.
What problem is it trying to solve?
I also don't get twitter. Is twitter still limited to 140chars despite
everyone having smartphones that really really ought not be limited by
silly SMS constraints, because it's too bloody difficult to type into
those silly little onscreen keyboards?
Bah, humbug.

Hi All,
Lev suggested I post this request in this Talk mailing list...
Have you authored any Wikipedia pages from scratch, or edited a number
of Wikipedia pages, regardless of the subject?
Do you think that the War On Drugs is wrong, and that prohibition causes
more problems than it solves?
Are you willing to volunteer a bit of your time to help out
=responsible=and=respectable= Australian drug law reform organisations
that don't yet have a Wikipedia entry? (e.g. Groups for
parliamentarians, doctors, law enforcement professionals, scientific
researchers, and family & friends of users.)
If yes, please contact me directly, off-list to find out more.
If not, please forward this on to someone you know who may be suitable.
We can limit it to one page/group per volunteer, if you are short on time.
NOTE: BEING WILLING TO HELP THESE GROUPS OUT IN NO WAY STATES THAT YOU
ARE (OR HAVE BEEN) A RECREATIONAL DRUG USER YOURSELF.
Thanks =very= much,
Carl Turney
