LUV October 2019 Main Meeting and AGM

Start: Oct 1 2019 19:00 End: Oct 1 2019 21:00 Location: Kathleen Syme Library, 251 Faraday Street Carlton VIC 3053 *NOTE: The library closes at 7pm so arrivals after that time will need to contact Andrew on (0421) 775 358 or any other attendee for admission.* Speakers: * To be announced Linux Users of Victoria AGM LUV will be holding our annual general meeting at the Kathleen Syme Library, 251 Faraday Street Carlton VIC 3053 commencing at 7pm. Nominations for committee positions (at least President and Treasurer, optionally also Secretary, Vice President and Ordinary Committee Members) are welcome either via email to the committee mailing list at luv-ctte(a)luv.asn.au or on the day. It's not a large workload and looks good on your CV, so please consider helping out the group! Many of us like to go for dinner nearby after the meeting, typically at *Brunetti's* or *Trotters Bistro* in Lygon St. Please let us know if you'd like to join us! Software Freedom Day - 21st of September 2019

Free Software Melbourne and Linux Users Victoria are celebrating the 16th annual Software Freedom Day celebrations in Melbourne and we're going to be hosting a series of talks about using Free and Open Source Software in the real world. We're going to be talking about what even is Free and Open Source software and why is Free Software so important we want to dedicate a whole day to it. We're also going to talk about using free software for audio production, and how open source is used in the development of open hardware and some demonstrations of projects you could even build yourself. We'll also be having plenty of networking opportunities and introductions to many of Melbourne's Free and Open Source technology groups and organizations. Entry is free any time and Software Freedom Day is a family friendly event welcoming to anyone, pass on the word to help make it a great day for everyone. We do have a code of conduct on our website, but in short: Be respectful. Be mindful. Work together. We'll have light snacks and sodas available gratis throughout the afternoon and at the conclusion of the day we usually continue discussions over dinner along the nearby Errol st, so feel free to join us if you're enjoying the conversations.
