Confirmation of adjourned LUV 2014 AGM
This notice is to confirm that Linux Users of Victoria Inc. will be
holding the adjournment of its Annual General Meeting, on Saturday 20th
September 2014. The meeting will be held in the Boardroom of Electron
Workshop at 3.30pm.
The only business to be conducted at this adjourned meeting is that on
the notice of the original AGM (to which you should refer at
http://luv.asn.au/2014/09/02) namely committee and financial reports,
and election of the committee.
Explanation: Under the new Model Rules, the original AGM, on 2
September, had to be adjourned because it did not reach quorum. If the
adjourned meeting does not reach quorum within 30 minutes, then the
members present (so long as there are at least three) can conduct the
business as if a quorum were present.
Note that the meeting is scheduled at this time and place for
convenience, since we expect a number of LUV members to be attending the
Software Freedom Day event anyway. However, keep in mind that this
adjourned AGM is a separate LUV meeting, and is not part of the Software
Freedom Day program.
Electron Workshop is on the south side of Arden Street, about half way
between Errol Street and Leveson Street. Public transport: 57 tram,
nearest stop at corner of Errol and Queensberry Streets; 55 and 59 trams
run a few blocks away along Flemington Road; 402 bus runs along Arden
Street, but nearest stop is on Errol Street. On a Saturday afternoon,
some car parking should be available on nearby streets.
LUV would like to thank Electron Workshop for making their boardroom
available for this meeting, also Red Hat for their help in obtaining the
Buzzard Lecture Theatre venue and VPAC for hosting, and BENK Open
Systems for their financial support of the Beginners Workshops.
Linux Users of Victoria Inc., is an incorporated association,
registration number A0040056C.

There will not be a regular LUV Beginners workshop for the month of
September. Instead, you're going to be in for a much bigger treat!
This month, OpenTechSchool Melbourne[1], along with Free Software
Melbourne[2], Linux Users of Victoria[3] and Electron Workshop[4] are
joining forces to bring you the local Software Freedom Day event for
Melbourne.
The event will take place on Saturday 20th September between 10am and
4pm, and this year we have a new venue:
Electron Workshop
31 Arden Street, North Melbourne.

We will be demonstrating GNU/Linux distributions, the Raspberry Pi,
Arduino and more. You will also get to see free software games on the
big screen - bring your laptops (and perhaps a mouse) if you want to
help put some of them to a mutiplayer test! Newcomers will also be able
to get help trying out and installing GNU/Linux on their machines, and
can learn more about free software.
We will have several guest speakers throughout the day with talks on
OpenStreetMap, open source gardening, electronics, Bitcoin and more!
Lunch will also be provided.
The Valhalla Social Cinema will be screening a film in the space just
after our celebration ends. Please consider joining them in the evening!
Ticket and film info is available here: http://valhallacinema.com.au/
This event has been generously sponsored by Serversaurus[5] and
Freetronics[6]. Image design work provided by Saltface Design.
More information about the event is available on the Software Freedom
Day Melbourne website: http://www.sfd.org.au/melbourne/
The day should be both educational and a lot of fun. Please spread the
word, and I'll see you there!
