Please reply to the list and address the issue of why the possibly mind- controlling team is a better fit than the Resistance given the way we oppose MS etc. Note that I don't have strong feelings either way, but we need to make a decision on this if we are to be on the same team. It seems that Google have designed this to have the difference between the teams be fairly ambiguous. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

Damn. I had intended to remove the email address from that. While the message wasn't anything particularly secret (presumably about half the people would choose that team initially) and the message may have been intended to be on-list the principle is that you don't reply to the list. Without identifying the person quoting text that merely advocates one of a pair of options wouldn't be a privacy or copyright issue IMHO. Sorry. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

Wow! Did I just do that? Teaches me for replying after I've had a few beers on Friday night! Yes the email was intended for the list, sorry. I'd vote for Enlightened. I think we are more 'for' Enlightening people with the philosophy and advantages of free software, rather than necessarily resisting any entity/organisation, that's why I say Enlightenment. Has anyone in Australia got any invites yet? Cheers -- Aryan Ameri

That happens all the time. It's the reason I use the reply-to. A good portion of the messages which accidentally don't go to the list significantly improve the quality of the list by their absense. For the messages which really should go to the list it's not that difficult to resend them.

Sounds plausible, better than any reason someone might have for baracking for the cats instead of the hawks.

I can't believe this, I just went to the Google Play site and it said "This item cannot be installed in your device's country". We need some FOSS games in this genre. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

Of course. Developers have always had the ability to limit their apps to particular countries. I don't think that's necessarily bad. Of course there is an easy way around it. Download and Install 'Market Enabler' on your phone (if it is rooted) and then you can impersonate any country/carrier combination. That will let you install Ingress from the Play Store, though you still need an invite code once it loads to get in. Cheers -- Aryan

The problem here is that Ingress requires local maps for things like the power you collect. So if you install the app and there is no possibility of using it without visiting another country then it's not going to be useful. Now even if you can install it without Google's help and get it to work (maybe the power etc is added automatically based on Google Maps) then there's still the issue of not having a lot of people in Australia. In which case we might have to split the Android hacking people into two teams to make it fun. But let's hope that Google just haven't released it yet and it will be available in Australia in a few days. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

I've got an invitation, but the app market still says that it's not available for my region. I've searched for "market enabler" on the Google Play Store but didn't find anything. Do you have a Play Store URL for it? Also do you still prefer Enlightened? -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

I've joined today as well. You can just sideload the APK. Just google Ingress APK and you can download it. The latest version is 1.0.8 Yes, Enlightened it is. And it looks fun! Aryan On Dec 5, 2012 5:26 PM, "Russell Coker" <russell@coker.com.au> wrote:

OK, I've joined Enlightened with user-name "etbe". -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

Neither https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingress_(game) nor http://ingress.com makes any mention of "enlightened". Where are you getting this data from? Hmm, perhaps the install link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress ...which I didn't bother to click on yesterday. Based on the description in those three URLs, I don't know why you're getting excited. It sounds to me like Google-controlled LARPing.

There are two factions in this game, the Enlightened and the Resistance.

What's not to get excited about a Google-controlled LARP? ;-) -- Aryan

I'm happy for any sort of augmented reality LARP via Android phones. This is not the first one. I saw one on the Android market before but it wasn't free and didn't look like it would be popular. So this might be the first successful LARP on Android phones which is something to be excited about. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/
