I brought a Nexus 4 for about twice that price in August. It's a good phone and I was happy paying that price, though I'm not sure what the trade-off for buying a refurbished model would be. It is still getting updates, I am running 5.0 Lollipop right now. The other advantage is it is the model Ubuntu touch is being developed on, which is convenient if you're interested in hacking that. One data point.
I have had a Nexus 4 for about 18 months. I've had no problems with it so I can recommend it as a solid performer. Runs KitKat official. The screen is not as sharp as newer models. I've used mine in AU (Optus) and the Western USA (AT&T) on 3G networks with no issues. Saved my arse many times driving with maps navigation voice mode. I expect it will work in Europe too as it supports 900 and 1800 MHz GSM bands.
I get photos and music in/out using gmtp (under Ubuntu 12.04); while Ubuntu 14.04 accesses the phone like a mass storage device under GNOME. Overall pretty good desktop Linux compatibility from what I've tried to do.
YOU WILL NEED A GOOGLE ACCOUNT to make use of many features. After all it is a Google phone.

The Nexus 4 is still a very capable phone, it has 4G of RAM, 16G of storage, runs recent versions of Android and can be easily rooted and modded.
Kogan is selling refurbished Nexus 4's for $169 each, this is really a great deal. The Nexus 6 is too expensive at ~$900 IMHO and the Nexus 5 still hasn't dropped in price.
