Hi Les, Yeah, it would be interesting. I found [http://arxiv.org/pdf/1310.4780.pdf], not sure if it's the same guy, but it looks like it's a comparison between "Links" and F#. C# has LINQ support these days. So it might not be what I'm looking for, but certainly of interest, especially if there's another paper that can be referred. I'm trying to establish an open source hackathon program in Geelong, and I've got lots of development to do. Getting awareness, finding participants, getting sponsorship and finding volunteers for each event - I only scale so far!
Please sign up to my newsletter if you are interested, and I'm sure we'll meet up eventually and change the world :)
Check out some of the ideas, I have put forward so far, would be great to get a mix of sources for more ideas - [1]http://startupcloud.com.au/questions/next/
Hi Todd,
I'm not in Geelong, so I can't give much physical help, and I'm pretty busy at the moment without much time to spare, but just a few thoughts:
About your "IL to SQL" project on startupcloud: I went to a talk by Phil Wadler recently about writing queries embedded in F# which was then massaged into SQL. I know not everybody programs in F#, but at least it's in the .Net world. If this is of any interest, let me know, and I'll try to rustle up more details.
Some of us in Melbourne have also talked about doing hackathons. Maybe with the right infrastructure we could set up some coordinated multi-site hackathons.
