** Linux and Android: Marriage of convenience, or match made in heaven? —
Aryan Ameri **
This talk will focus on the history of Android as a mobile operating, its
interactions with the Linux kernel and the bigger free software community,
and the possible ways in which this relationship could evolve in future. It
will briefly introduce the audience to Android programming, specifically
porting traditional GNU/Linux applications to Android, and then ponder on
ARM vs. x86 rivalry, the upcoming Windows on ARM, and the challenges that
lie ahead for Linux in the embedded world.
Aryan Ameri is a technology enthusiast and hobbyist. An advocate of free
software, he has participated in deploying Cloud computing technologies in
the enterprise. Aryan is the co-organiser of Android Australia User Group
and works on Android development.
** Library of LUV **
Library of LUV is a collection of books available for loan to members.
The collection is managed through the wiki and the books are circulated at
the monthly LUV meetings (and the Penguin Picnic, in January). For more
details, please see the wiki:

and expects members to conduct themselves appropriately. On complaint,
however, we may investigate, and if behaviour is unbecoming a member of
LUV, we may remove that member from the mailing list for a period of time
as deemed appropriate by the committee.
** Map of the meeting venue **
Our website now has an all-new map of the meeting venue, more clearly
showing how to find the Buzzard Lecture Theatre. Just follow either of the
red lines!
