This talk will focus on the history of Android as a mobile operating, its interactions with the Linux kernel and the bigger free software community, and the possible ways in which this relationship could evolve in future. It will briefly introduce the audience to Android programming, specifically porting traditional GNU/Linux applications to Android, and then ponder on ARM vs. x86 rivalry, the upcoming Windows on ARM, and the challenges that lie ahead for Linux in the embedded world.
