Hi - I would be interested too as I have several older Androids that I use for backwards compatibility testing of my 'entry-level' Apps. I'd like something that has NFC and real GPS if possible... Mike H On 30/10/17 14:21, Russell Coker via luv-talk wrote:

I was going to suggest https://shop.fairphone.com/en/buy-fairphone2-2/ but it looks to be sold out at the moment... On 30 October 2017 at 14:30, MikeH via luv-talk <luv-talk@luv.asn.au> wrote:

Does lineageOS support any of them? Some time I want an Android phone, but not quite, one with what was Cyanogenmod, and is now LineageOS rather than Android, and certainly not with the "extras" so often included. The manufacturers ones are less offensive than the bits the telcos tend to add, in large measure. I want to be able to set the provided GPS to the South Pole or other nonsense when they pull it without bothering to ask and explain and get my agreement. If they do not respect me, I am all too happy to poison their database. Regards, Mark Trickett

No idea as I don't have time to do LineageOS stuff. The Xperia is very unlikely to as Sony traditionally has been less open than most Android vendors. Kogan has a heap of phones on offer and it's quite likely that one of them will be more suited to your use than those 4. But as I can't save money by getting a cheaper phone (they are offering me all the phones of about the same price as my Nexus 6P) and don't feel inclined to spend more (it would be a hassle as well as expensive) my options are limited. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/oneplus-5-64gb-grey/ The OnePlus seems to be well regarded as an Android phone if you have the money for it. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-google-nexus-5x-32gb-black/ Nexus phones are generally well supported by all other OS builds. The Nexus 5X for $529 is an OK deal, not a great deal given that the Nexus 6P with 64G was $700 a year ago and would presumably be cheaper now if they had stock. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/huawei-mate-9-dual-sim-64gb-gold-huawei/ https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-g6-dual-sim-64gb-silver/ I've narrowed my decision to the above 2 phones because I want a big screen. I've been using a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini while they were doing the warranty assessment and the small screen is really annoying. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

It would've been easier to give a meaningful answer if you had included your functional requirements up-front. For example:
No idea as I don't have time to do LineageOS stuff.
--> CM/Lineage support is NOT REQUIRED. I will run the vendor's OS.
I've narrowed my decision to the above 2 phones because I want a big screen. I've been using a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini while they were doing the warranty assessment and the small screen is really annoying.
--> SHOULD/MUST have a big screen (define "big").

Interestingly, NEITHER of these vendors are measured in this 2015 paper about the security quality of stock vendor Android distros: https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~drt24/papers/spsm-scoring.pdf If you're too lazy to read the paper, the pop-culture version is: http://androidvulnerabilities.org/

I was giving the LG a plus (for update security), until I got one. I picked up a cheapie from Aldi which has a digital radio (free over the air digital), the radio is just okay, but it gave me footy when "normal" digital radio stations are forbidden from broadcasting during games for reasons that relate to AFL "rights" deals and I'm not interested in signing up to Telstra for anything, nor do I want Foxtel. I was hoping to be able to get software updates for it, but it is stuck on Android 6.0 and with November, 2016 updates. So sad about that, otherwise it is a reasonable phone. It was going to replace my old OnePlus One, but given this lack of software update issue and the AU availability of the OP5, I opted for the OP5 as the replacement. Kind Regards AndrewM

Hi Russell, I can't vouch for the seller, but if you choose the ""Slate Grey" option, it can be gotten for $839 less 20% with the "PIXELS" code and with free delivery from HONG KONG.... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OnePlus-5-128GB-in-Midnight-Black-Slate-Grey/182... Cheers A.

If you were not rusted on Kogan.... well, you might want to buy directly from OnePplus ... that is, if they had stock available. I picked up the 128GB / 8GB RAM version for $699 and got some extras on top recently. https://oneplus.net/au/oneplus-5 Much cheaper than Kogan as well in this case. In terms of software updates, nothing beast a "Google" phone, but my 6P has October updates, the OP5 has September and we need November to fix the client side issues of KRACK. Kind Regards AndrewM
