Apart from the controversy over (ab)uses of the word "Hacker" & different definitions of "Nerd" & "Geek" etc. there's probably different applications of the (newer?) word "hipster" compared to "hippie" & the older word "hepcat". Also in comparing stereotypes to "Yuppie", "Elite" & "Chardonnay Socialist". I was told by two people who claim to remember the 60s, (I do myself, but I was an mis-(in)formed child then), that in Australia "Hippies" were called "Freaks". I read somewhere that many in the rest of the world used that term for themselves too. They felt "Hippies" was a mainstream media label as (proto-hippies?) "The Beat" felt about the term "Beatnik". And Malcolm Muggeridge said he had seen the 60s before, except then it was called the 20s. 20s nostalgia is apparently taking off right now due to another "The Great Gatsby" movie but will likely be over way before the 2020s. (Humanity may be over too, that's after [8 bit?] Unix ticks & Microsoft Win-NT directory dates run out [2017]. Also after the Moore's Law singularity predicted in 2018-19, maybe those two will somewhat cancel out each other? Would only [at best!] delay "The Spike"/singularity though.) 2014 will see the start of many, many, many "Great War" 100th anniversaries. I hope no-one gets nostalgic for any of that but I wonder if it will affect Goths & Emos. On one hand it gives them plenty to gloom about but on the other hand it's a reminder of how relatively well off they are. I guess then they can feel sorry for themselves because they realise no-one else will think they have much reason to be. Dav(e/id/o/y) I believe it is long overdue for lawyers, economists, writers & politicians to understand that ignorance of the law(s of physics) is no excuse!
