I may need to urgently buy a new Android phone. The Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus are both appealing. I want something big featureful and easy to mod. Suggestions? -- Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S Android phone with K-9 Mail.

Suggestions?
Samsung Galaxy Nexus!!
Why? Currently an ebay store has the Galaxy Note for $90 more. It's got a bigger screen and a slightly higher resolution. Is there any way in which the Galaxy Nexus is better? (*) The Nexus is designed to be easy to mod, but if the Note is like the Galaxy S that I'm using now then it's not that hard. Are there any other good options I should consider? The reason for my hurry is that the owner of my Galaxy S wants it back... (*) Smaller != better IMHO. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

Even though I'm not small, I think the Note is too big to normal use. The gnex is just on the cusp of being too big, but it's comfortable for daily use

http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2011/10/gadget-patrol-bigger-is- better.html Charles Stross (the famous sci-fi author who has released some of his work freely on the Internet) wrote an insightful blog post about some of these issues. He describes smart-phones as becoming two thumb devices. http://etbe.coker.com.au/2011/10/28/desktop-augmented-reality/ It also depends on what you are doing. If you mostly do writing then a phone isn't much good, most modern phones aren't nearly as good as the iPaQ I used 10 years ago for text input, even a Galaxy Note will suck a bit although it should beat the iPaQ in many ways. For coding a phone doesn't have a big enough screen, but I think that with some Augmented Reality features it would be usable for when inspiration strikes while you are on the move (see the above URL). But for sysadmin work a big screen is really important. ssh on a 4" 854*480 screen is really painful. Even with a hardware keyboard (flip out or bluetooth) it's going to be difficult to use. A major feature of an Android phone for me is to remove the need for carrying my EeePC 901 with me, while the 901 is in many ways the best EeePC ever made (smaller and lighter than all newer ones) it still can't fit into anyone's pocket. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/
