Yes you read right… Desktop Mood, not mode. I was pondering if anyone has done, or more likely aware of some good research, on how the computer or tablet or phone background can have on a persons mood. The colours, the pattern, or picture, etc. Does having a picture of loved ones^^ make a difference? ^^Can include pets. Does an outdoor scene do it for you? And how close to reality does it have to be? i.e. Do Mountain scenes cut the mustard for you, or does it have to be your local park? Thoughts? Or you could be like me… Boring :)

Well boredom is a topic on it's own; I have a friend who changes his wall-paper all the time; and finds my choices dull and their unchanging nature excruciatingly boring; whereas I would no sooner consider changing them than .....attempting to swim to New Zealand ! ....how would I remember then which box and which OS is currently booted ? :-) regards Rohan McLeod

i change my desktop background very rarely (maybe once per 5 or 10 years), but I generally only see it once every few months in the brief time after rebooting, between logging in and starting my maximised terminals (tabbed, plus tmux - i recently switched from GNU screen to tmux, mostly for the unicode support. on an xfce desktop with top and bottom panels for menus + icons etc). I *like* boring for a desktop, and disable all animations, sounds, and other irritating or distracting UI elements on any machine I use. craig -- craig sanders <cas@taz.net.au>

On my desktop environment (tiling window manager), I rarely, if ever see the desktop background, so the surrounding work environment has more influence on mood. For instance, keeping the desk uncluttered, working in a well lit space, preferably with natural light, but otherwise non-direct/diffused lighting, using task lamps where required, and having live plants nearby. Or, weather permitting, working outdoors from a nearby park occassionally, preferably using a matte display, and out of direct sunlight, otherwise YMMV.
