Who in melbourne is good at laptop upgrades? I have a Lenovo X200 (no longer my primary laptop). I'm considering upgrading the hard drive, perhaps to a hybrid drive, and upgrading the memory modules. Ideally, I'm looking for a supplier who can install the components for me. Also, I'm not sure whether this laptop's BIOS reports errors if you use non-Lenovo drives. It's running Linux of course. I haven't made a final decision about this, but I'm certainly thinking about it.

Doesn't sound too challenging, but if you want to use someone who is a specialist in this area, we send off laptop repairs to: Laptop Kings 219 Park St South Melbourne I doubt that they have any Linux specific expertise, but they certainly know laptops and have spares for most close at hand. cheers Brian

Excellent, thanks.

Traditionally upgrading a hard drive and the second DIMM in a Thinkpad has been really easy. It's something that anyone can do. Upgrading the first DIMM is a little tricky and requires taking out the keyboard. If your system has 4G of RAM in 2*2G then you can easily upgrade it to 6G but 8G would be harder. If you only have 1 DIMM installed then it's easier to upgrade it significantly. -- Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with K-9 Mail.

Some how you will have to get the laptop to the workshop and get it back, and provide the spare drive and memory modules. It may also be a good opportunity for others who are there to learn about a few things while this is being done. There are some risks associated to the fact that it wont be a "professional" job, but you may be happy to take those risks. Cheers Daniel.

Thanks. this would indeed be a good learning opportunity at the workshop. I'll have to check my schedule, though, as I'm working to deadlines due to some anticipated travel in the near future.
