Anyone in need of any older computer gear?

Hey folks, Is anyone in need of more 'vintage' computer gear? There's a stack of stuff I've got: * BBC + assorted parts * 386 and up motherboards * 486 and up CPUs * Assorted RAM (FP/EDO and up) * 2x APC rack mount 700VA UPSs * Pentium, PPro, P3, P4, Cel D etc. and up computers (one even has a Video Blaster SE100 in it, with the cables) * Many assorted IO cards (ISA, VLB) * Labtam X term (might even be able to rustle up an AUI adapter for it) * Assorted tower cases (AT, ATX) * 2x Wyse60 serial terminals * Multiple 10/100 switches (a couple may be managed) of varying sizes (16-24 port I think) * Multiple WiFi routers with and without modems, one 3G * Cisco SHDSL modem (dumpster dive) * 3Com business routers (another dumpster dive) * HP DL380 (G3 I think) * IBM xSeries 336 * DLT IV (I think ... VS80?) drive * Assorted 33.6 and 56K modems * Parallel port scanner (UMAX Astra 600) * Assorted CRT displays * Assorted 3.5" and 5.25" drives I'm thinking a trip to local eWaste collection point might be in order, but before turfing stuff, like to see if it'll get another go. A lot of it's in the "I never got around to using it", or "I haven't used it in ages" category :)

Hi there, wow - I recognise some of that stuff - I am at least half interested in the BBC - I was convinced to through mine away a long time ago ... Mike On 26/08/15 14:23, Anthony Hogan wrote:

It's a master series with EcoNET port. It's missing one key from the keyboard. I think I may also have a Model B lurking about somewhere maaaybe. Definitely have a 3.5" drive for it. Maaaybe a 5.25".. and have a 50MB hard disk in a huge enclosure for it. The 50MB HDD used to power the EcoNET network at my highschool. Sadly it stopped recognising the filesystem some time during the late 90s, early naughties :( ... who knows if it'd be possible to recover data from the system. Somewhere in the bucket of bits I have "The Tube" which was the external coprocessor for the BBC which was required to run the EcoNET file server software. Its internal toroid transformer blew rather badly (so acrid was the smell, I had to disassemble it under the range hood at home :) ), so I'd hooked up a connection from the power supply within the hard disk enclosure to power it. Are you able to bring this stuff to a LUV meeting? On Wed, 26 Aug 2015 14:23:20 Anthony Hogan wrote:

I'm interested in 800MHz+ P3 systems and 1GHz+ Celeron systems if they are complete (IE motherboard, CPU, and PSU - everything but disks and RAM).
* HP DL380 (G3 I think) * IBM xSeries 336
What type of CPU, how much RAM, and how loud are they? From memory they are both 2RU systems so they shouldn't be really loud. I've got some plans for LUV training that can be really assisted by a 2RU system that's not too noisey (I wanted to use the Sun 1RU system we have but was rejected because of noise).

Thanks for making this offer. If you have any SATA disks and DDR2/DDR3 RAM to give away then that would be appreciated for the hardware library. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/ -- Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with K-9 Mail.

May be difficult.. I generally work 2-10pm shifts in the city (near Lonsdale and Elizabeth). That said, I could potentially bring stuff in to the office on a weekend when I usually drive in, and have it available for pickup.

All the P3 and higher boxes are generally complete. P3 is an IBM PC GL300 and may not meet your minimum clock speed spec, I'd need to boot it to confirm (am pretty sure it's the cartridge style of P3 CPU). Probably even have the disks and RAM. I know I have at least one Celeron D which will probably meet your clock speed requirements (its GPU needs a better fan - it's admittedly a bit jury rigged right now, but it's functional - damn shitty GPU fans).. There are some other systems I haven't booted in awhile that may also be celerons. Multiple complete P4s (Dell Dimension).
* HP DL380 (G3 I think) * IBM xSeries 336

Both Xeons.. I'd have to check the ram, minimum 8 I'd reckon.. Admittedly they can be bloody noisy when fans are running at full tilt. The DL380 is a 2RU with SCSI drives (x4 from memory), the IBM is a 1RU with at least two drives. I'll have to boot them up... *adds to do list*

No worries - I know not all of it will be of interest to folks, but I reckon if someone can use it, then that's one less thing in waste stream.

Probably more PATA than SATA floating about not in a machine... and *gasp* at least one of the older "two cable" (MFM RLL?) drives. Anthony --

Is that a BBC microcomputer you're referring to? I can give that a home -- probably just to live in a cupboard, but I'd hate to see it go to e-waste. I'll take a 56k modem as well (I have one, but it's kinda useless on its own). If you have any spare switch/routers I'll grab one of those. I'm also trying to work out whether to fork out $$$ for a Model M keyboard or get a mechanical keyboard one day. If anyone has one in working order that is surplus to requirements, I'll consider making an offer. I don't want to put you to enormous amounts of trouble though. Where are you located? If you work in the CBD I could easily do a lunchtime pickup, or maybe we could do a LUV meeting. On 26 August 2015 at 14:23, Anthony Hogan <anthony-luv@hogan.id.au> wrote:

Hey,

Yes.. there's a BBC Master Series (missing one key from the keyboard) ... and I thiiiiiink I might have a Model B about the place.

Multiple switches and routers (see other reply I made to someone).

I'm based out in Sunbury (MEL airport + about 15 mins if that), but work in the CBD. I might be able to bring stuff into the city on weekend when I have a shift (my work roster varies from week to week) and leave it in the office until a day when you could collect. I generally work 2-10pm shifts, but it varies anywhere between 8-4 to 2-10.

I'm afraid I'm pretty far from Sunbury, but getting to meet you in the CBD should be quite straightforward. I am happy to coordinate the day so that you don't need to take up your office space for long. I think I might simplify it to just the BBC. Name your date (although next week is bad) and I'll endeavour to clear my diary so I can come and grab it. Do you want any $$ for it? If not, I'll make a nominal donation to your time and effort. I'm interested in all of the above. Could probably pick them up at the next LUV meeting; or otherwise, any time that suits from the CBD. ~Joel

Get thee behind me Satan ! :-) regards Rohan Mcleod

I didn't manage to get the gear that people had asked for into the city due to my schedule (it's hard for me to get stuff into the city on weekdays) and I've been off colour since Christmas Eve. With the figurative clouds lifting a bit, so to speak, if the folks that asked for some of the gear are happy to, I can schedule to bring the gear into the office where I work (in Lonsdale Street) on one of the weekends I'm rostered on (on the weekends, I drive in, due to reduced parking fees closer to office and less frequent public transport). Mike H. + Tennessee L. - You seemed interested in the BBC kit Anthony S. - You seemed interested in some of the networking gear Russell C. - You wondered if some of the server gear I could bring into a LUV meeting. Unfortunately I'm either not in the city on a Tuesday or working until 10pm. Daniel J. - You were interested in some of the ADSL kit ... did I ever get the kit to you? I think I did... Rohan M. - You ran screaming from the junk pile :-D David P. - Yes, the Econet Level 3 file server hard disk unit + computers came from Barson Mike H - Yeap, you're right.. I learned RS232 by connecting a TRS-80 to a white box 80286 I'm next rostered on Sunday 24th from ~2pm-10pm in Lonsdale Street between Elizabeth and Queen Sts.. Anthony
