(I was just looking at smart phone prepaid plans.
None are suitable
for me. I want to pay less than $20 per month, which I can do with
a non smartphone by virtue of having some credit that can last 365
days, as long as I don't use it. Which I don't. Very few providers
seem to realise that not everyone wants to talk and text on their
phone all day every day. Sometimes we only want something for
emergencies because we're unsociable bastards).
Already got a pager? ;-)
If you get a yearly pre-paid data SIM you can receive calls and SMS and you
get 10G+ of data to use over the year. That costs about $120-$150 per annum
depending on which provider you choose, well below $20 per month and 10G per
annum is quite a lot of data to transfer over a mobile phone.
For reference my phone is on a 1.5G/month plan, my phone supports Wifi
tethering which I use to update Android apps for my wife's phone (which is on
a smaller plan) and I also provided Wifi at this month's LUV meeting
(something I plan to do at future meetings). I occasionally have a month
where I get close to 1.5G, but I could easily survive on 10G for a year.
