I have a low end NextG account ~ $40/month; by accident I discovered data was $2/ MB; fortunately before I had downloaded =< 10MB.!
On of the first observations is that the website seems to be incompatible with Firefox, Chromium, and Android browser; in all three environments clicking the next button does nothing:

Yes, a lot of Telstra plans have no included data. :( You might have been better off with prepaid, where you can buy a browse pack for cheap data. Anyway, Telstra in Bendigo has been crap lately, with cells losing their data connectivity. Outside of Bendigo, NextG is great. I now have a device running on Internode (which uses the Optus network, that works well here), so I have redundancy. Chances are Telstra or Optus are going to be up in a given area (unless it's outside the coverage range, of course!). My Three phone has its data turned off for obvious reasons. I will be changing that over to another carrier in the next month or two, just waiting for the contract to run out, which is due very soon. 73 de VK3JED / VK3IRL http://vkradio.com

"low end"? Sounds like a low end plan designed by the sales people! I am using the casual plan, $10 a month for sim + $10 a month for 1GB/month allowance. No allowance for phone calls, however I don't (read: can't) make many from my tablet. No contract, I can cancel whenever I want. If I wanted to make phone calls, I would consider either the $20 casual plan + $10 a month data (includes $20 phones calls 0.27c connection + 0.47c per min or 42 mins voice calls) or the $20 member plan, which looks similar, but 12 month contract in return for a choice of "bonus" options. They don't make this easy to understand... So apologies if I got some of the details wrong. -- Brian May <brian@microcomaustralia.com.au>

My service is a "corporate" one that requires an ABN on the Optus network. It cost me $0 to setup, $0 per month with zero inclusions. Calls at 12c/30sec with no flagfall -- data at 2c per MB, counted in KB and it also gives me a static IP address! It is also a service that I sell as an agent for Exetel. Of course there are other options that include calls and data, but this plan suits me fine with most of my data coming via from DSL services. -- Kind Regards AndrewM Andrew McGlashan Broadband Solutions now including VoIP Current Land Line No: 03 9012 2102 Mobile: 04 2574 1827 Fax: 03 9012 2178 National No: 1300 85 3804 Affinity Vision Australia Pty Ltd http://www.affinityvision.com.au http://adsl2choice.net.au In Case of Emergency -- http://www.affinityvision.com.au/ice.html

I realized I got that wrong, it isn't 0.47c per minute, but rather 0.47c per 30 second block. So data is good (I can't see myself getting near 1GB in a month), however voice calls and SMS aren't so good - just over 20 minutes voice calls *or* 80 SMS. So hopefully I have got it right this time :-) -- Brian May <brian@microcomaustralia.com.au>
