Does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to buy jeans? I visited Jeans West a couple of days ago but the pockets in their jeans are too small. My Samsung Galaxy S took up the entire space in one pocket (the top of the phone was just below the top of the pocket). This compares poorly to my current pair of jeans which can fit a Nexus 7 tablet in the pocket. Admittedly the Nexus 7 isn't a comfortable fit, but it illustrates the options available. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_7 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_Note I have no idea where I bought my current pair of jeans, so I can't buy another the same. Also I don't really need pockets big enough for a tablet. A pocket the correct size for a Galaxy Note would be fairly ideal. Any ideas other than getting a regular pair of jeans altered? -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/

I get my clobber from Target.

I think you're going to have great trouble turning that functional requirement into an SKU. Unless maybe you go to a specialist store that stocks gear explicitly for nerds, and charges a premium for it. Reminds me of the "tactical" pants that someone (Stross?) was talking about a while back, which are just cargo pants rebranded for CoD weenies.

I assume you already googled any likely-looking strings still legible on the care tag.

Not really, although putting a bigger front pocket onto a pair of jeans should be pretty easy if you have a sewing machine and an unpicker. The pocket is (almost) always thinner cloth, separate from the main denim part. Use a triple stitch over zig-zag or similar.

I agree with Trent, (that might worry him)! Much as I don't like to support near duopolies I suspect the Jeans in Target/Kmart/Coles/Fosseys & BigW/Woolworths/Safeway are so much cheaper they'll be more cost effective even IF they aren't as well made. And less likely to prioritise appearance over mundane considerations like pockets. Or places like Rivers or Army Disposal/Outdoor stores could be worth checking. (Sadly I guess Fletcher Jones won't be an option now). Maybe Cargo pants would suit you better but heavy things in the low front pockets are tiresome if you're rushing. I'm thinking of buying an angling jacket (a sort of mesh vest) from an outdoor store, just for the pockets. ( I 'm not into fish torturing, prefer to outsource that). That is exactly what I already use for all my gadgets, I ride a motorbike
exclusively so don't have access to a glove box in my car for bit and bobs so the fishing vest covers the bases well including a large pocket in the small of my back big enough for a galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. I also carry lots of things on my belt a nice heavy duty handmade one.

They *do* have a lower thread count, noticable if you swap directly from one pair of jeans to another.

Sounds like tactical harness, now I think of it. Batman only had a belt, clearly he didn't carry enough gadgets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webbing http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/PLCE Back when I was wearing two sets of clothes every day (school uniform and civvies), I made a bandolier with a couple of map pockets that would fit under the jacket, so I didn't have to bugger about transferring everything from one set of pockets to the other.

Well angling jackets haven't appeared on 'Big Bang Theory' yet; so in that sense it will be a cutting edge fashion statement :- | regards Rohan McLeod ....who has been known to watch that show !

http://www.scottevest.com/ The Scott-e-Vest has been great for such things for a long time. I've got one that's over 10 years old which still works well. It has zips for the sleeves and lots of pockets. http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/Travel_Vest.shtml The above URL has the nearest match for the one I've got. The newer vests use magnets to attach sleeves (which is becoming less of a problem with the demise of magnetic media). They also have shirts with lots of pockets. But they don't cover the jeans and t-shirt case well. My Scott vest was barely bearable at Ballaratt LCA and was way too hot in Brisbane LCA some years ago. http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/Cotton_Tshirt.shtml Above is their t-shirt with pockets, it's intersting but I don't think it would handle a Galaxy Note well. They have polo shirts in the same design. They also have a range of women's clothing. Women probably aren't catered to as well as men due to the greater ranges of sizes needed, but it's still better than it used to be and better than most geek apparel companies.

It's generally a good show, pity that the writers don't respect us. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/
