I think you're right. Upon some review reading, my understanding is that MARC is an elaboration (expansion in scope) of DKIM (which in turn was an elaboration of DomainKeys), and DKIM implements digital signing & vetting of various SMTP headers and the body text. It doesn't attempt to validate the envelope, as does SPF. Yes, I do believe you've summarised the matter well.
