The claim that I read, as I understood it, was merely concerned with an alleged limitation in the MS tools, not necessarily inherent to NTFS.
If there were a Linux command line NTFS resizing utility that was reliable, it may have been a better option for me.
I routinely use gparted to resize ntfs and it gets the tools from ntfs-3g such as ntfsresize and haven't had any issues.
