I use a debit card as well, same deal, I can control how much is in the account at any time. Internet banking allows me to transfer funds on an as needed basis.
The effect is to limit the damage that can be caused by erroneous transactions. I also prefer to spend my own money rather than to borrow and then pay it back with interest added.
