Thanks for the suggestion - it kinda half worked. It brought up a blank VNC screen on my desktop, but mouse clicks from desktop were registered on the handset..

Only problem was the handset ground to a halt almost - whatever background process it was running went reeeeeallly.. slooooowwwwly...

Sorry to hear of the problem, I'll get my son to find out exactly what his friend uses.
