Back to Luv-talk. Who's that with? I haven't found/deciphered any such plans like that.
I'm pretty happy with $1/month http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/pay-as-you-go
the only expensive bit is leaving and retrieving messages, but you can turn all that off in tpg's settings. there's $41 in setup cost too.
I have this plan for a 7" phone/tablet which is mostly on wifi and only very infrequently used as a phone or with mobile data. pretty happy with it. network is optus.

Damn. Too late for me, although the tradeoffs I made in the end needed to take into account getting a good phone cheaply. Whose towers does it go through? Vodafone's coverage ain't brilliant - when I was north of the Flinders ranges a few weeks ago, I was outside of vodafone coverage for many days on end (I was only a few hours from Adelaide when I reobtained it briefly). I actually found a place at Parachillna with copious quantities of high-latency satellite hosted on free-wifi - a couple of days before I got back to civilisation. Good thing I had my laptop with me (came in handy when I filled up the card on my camera too :) -- Tim Connors
