Okay, but surely you must have known the answer was probably there. Perhaps a better solution would have been to find the "simple" solution, which is clearly "--dry-run" and then bring this to the list and elaborate on your requirements and see if this is the best answer or if there is a better or useful other option to consider. That way you don't have people coming back to you and say something like RTFM or provide a lmgtfy link.
