Why do you need such speed on a phone?
I don't. However, the phone won't be the last 802.11ac device here; the next laptop will support it as well, whenever that's purchased, and it might not always be within range of Ethernet cables. Thus the thought was: consider an 802.11ac access point and avoid the upgrade later on. I suppose the backups and dist-upgrades can afford to be on Ethernet, but I tend to be of the "buy hardware that meets the latest standards and hold onto it until there's a real need to upgrade" school.
