Heh. I've just learnt that the top public servants are going to get a 5% payrise on their $800,000 year. Meanwhile, I'm going to have to demonstrate a "real productivity gain, such as working 2.5% more hours" to get a 2.5% payrise. (harder, not smarter!) By my estimates over the past month, I'm now doing 3 times as much work as a few months ago because of a top-down enforced reorganisation, and we have twice as many machines to run as we did 18 months ago, and I get paid $10,000 less in real terms than someone in my position did 11 years ago. The job paperwork that was meant to be my promotion was also just about to be submitted the day our fearless leader announced a public-serf wide job freeze. Fuck them. I'm about ready to quit. Too bad that I'm the only guy from the old linux group that's going into the new linux group. Hope that brown envelope of passwords ended up with the right guy up the chain. -- Tim Connors
