Second to Java as the most risky /optional/ software to have a on computer. Besides, Flash is also far too often a resource hog as well. Flash objects contain code that can do all sorts of things, including, as Yahoo found out, providing malware via the Flash adverts. If you can do without it, good. If you can't, then use it with care and preferably only with trusted content. A.
