Yes, not quite the hapless screwup I'd assumed based on merely skimming the headline. (I had just woken up, saw the headline, and misread it as stating that the pilot truly thought he had reached Malaysia.) The linked _SMH_ had some more information -- though, oddly, not the flight number or exact airplane type. The picture makes it look like an A320.
