The Amiga 1000 was launched at a facility of Lincoln Center, New York, New York, USA on 23rd July 1985.
Like say, Sinclair & unlike Apple, Commodore had some history of launching products well before people could buy them. I've read a lot of places that even in the USA, Amigas weren't available until September 1985, the same month as the MsDOS application (not OS!) Microsoft Windows (undeserved ™).
("Microsoft Blind" or "Microsoft Curtain" would have described it more truthfully since it was in some ways covering over the O.S. )
As they have recently, back then Microsoft Windows ™ tiled the display too, it had tiling windows which some people preferred but later Microsoft Windows ™ versions had overlapping windows, if you selected "tile" in Win 95+ the windows would be arranged down the page as a full-width stack but if you moved or resized one, it would still overlap, unlike Microsoft's original or similar managers available for X Window.
So 30 years ago, depending on publication dates, some people may have been waiting impatiently, possibly having ordered and maybe prepaid for an Amiga. Apart from Commodore Developers, only a few like Debbie and Andy already had one.
