The Victorian standards of pollies seem to be very low at the moment.
They are not alone, I rank the current federal mob as very much the same.
E.g. handing over parts of a National Park silently to a developer 2 days before going in caretaker mode
Absolutely disgusting.
or signing contracts weeks before an election to promise hundred million dollars of taxpayers' money (our money) to a consortium if his successors decide not to clear the way for a project which is still before the courts..
I would like to see Denis Naphtine in jail instead of in government, to be honest.
Agreed.
BTW: I am pretty sure some of it would not work in Germany. These kind of contracts are "sittenwidrig" there (http://www.dict.cc/german-english/sittenwidrig.html: unethical, improper..) and can be nullified in court.
Has Australia similar lows to invalidate clearly improper contracts?
There really should be, but I don't know the answer.
Anyway, I cannot believe that Australians ignore such behaviour. Naphtine should be unelectable.
Yes, he wasn't voted in, Baillieu resigned and Napthine got it by default. Looks like he will never get voted in, hopefully that becomes an enduring reality. One most amazing political fact, Kennett worked very well with Keating; like or hate both, but they got the /job/ done for Victoria. You couldn't see Abbott support any Labor state. Of course the state election is the a step along the way to getting rid of Abbott down the track ... just wish that latter was here much more quickly. A.
