luv mail lists on 2 servers still.... or 2 domains (lists.luv.asn.au & luv.asn.au)

Hi, Not sure which list this is best for, but I am guessing luv-meta ???? We still have two mailman servers here.... luv.asn.au & lists.luv.asn.au No sure if they are meant to be consolidated to one server or not.... I thought there was a way to list all of one's own subscriptions, but I couldn't see it with the "help" request to mailman-list-request@ .... The results of your email command are provided below. Attached is your original message. - Results: Public mailing lists at luv.asn.au: 1. List name: luv-announce Description: Low traffic announcements list. Requests to: luv-announce-request@luv.asn.au 2. List name: luv-ctte Description: LUV Committee private mailing list. Requests to: luv-ctte-request@luv.asn.au 3. List name: luv-jobs Description: List for people offering or seeking linux and open source jobs Requests to: luv-jobs-request@luv.asn.au 4. List name: luv-talk Description: General chat list for LUV members Requests to: luv-talk-request@lists.luv.asn.au

http://lists.luv.asn.au/listinfo/luv-main http://lists.luv.asn.au/listinfo/luv-talk The official addresses for the above lists are luv-talk@lists.luv.asn.au and luv-main@luv.asn.au. I think that we should have the same domain name used for all the lists, and as the luv-main list is the most important we should standardise on that and change all the other lists to match. Also I think we should configure the mail server to not accept mail for the domain @lists.luv.asn.au to stop duplicate mail. The current situation is spamming the lists with duplicate messages, it even catches me on occasion. I wrote the above to the luv-ctte list on Thursday. There is only one server, just different names with MX records pointing to the same A record. No-one has replied, I might do this as part of the migration to the new LUV server. I have changed all the mailman lists to accept luv.asn.au as the preferred hostname. -- Lev Lafayette, BA (Hons), GradCertTerAdEd (Murdoch), GradCertPM, MBA (Tech Mngmnt) (Chifley) mobile: 0432 255 208 RFC 1855 Netiquette Guidelines http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1855.txt

I think we should reject mail send to the lists.luv.asn.au addresses to prevent duplicate mail going to the lists. Such rejection will cause far fewer problems than the recent change of discarding mail sent from the wrong address. -- My Main Blog http://etbe.coker.com.au/ My Documents Blog http://doc.coker.com.au/
