Hi Folks, Just as I was leaving telstra, this was one of the projects pending kick-off for our team. Based on FON in europe. so naturally when it became available I signed up. So far I've barely used it. those times I have, it's been via the Telstra provided hotspots and the service hasn't been that fast - but better than nothing I guess. based on reading it requires a certain amount of take up to be useful and I don't think we are there yet. ANother thing is that it doesn't really cope with roaming very well. for example, on the train, it isn't going to cope with sites coming into range and out of range without some manner of hierarchical mobile pre-connection (which does exist, both for IPv4 and IPv6)... even if there is continuous coverage. so it's great if you are standing still, near a hotspot, and don't need high speeds... um... I'm still a fan, but it's not the killer app I was expecting - yet... On Mon, May 16, 2016 at 10:12 AM, MikeH via luv-main <luv-main@luv.asn.au> wrote:

Hi Paul, I drove past a TA kiosk yesterday, as often happens these days, and in came a few new emails... There are a few TA hotspots on my regular train route but they are just out of reach when in the carriages. Next time I am waiting I will try and see just where on the platform I can access it. It helps to keep me just a bit more up to date with emails and other message types. There are plenty in the city so this has helped me. In my setup period I needed some assistance from Telstra and a young female assistant in a shop with a TA kiosk outside wanted me to add a SIM to my iPad and change my plan ... I mentioned that to a subsequent visit to another store and they were appalled and laughed. Mike p.s. do I know you ( have I seen you at a LUV meeting ?) On 16/05/16 13:44, Paul van den Bergen wrote:

Is it any better than public free WiFi? I mean really, is it just as insecure? I don't use ANY Telstra services and I most definitely NEVER use public WiFi, as I believe that NEITHER can be trusted; that includes Telstra themselves of course! Cheers A.

One alternative is to use networks but not trust them. This is my preference on _any_ network, frankly.

Excellent point Rick, you are, of course 100% correct. Thanks A.
