I had no idea this would be necessary, but this morning I purchased an Epson MFP, an XP 432. I made this choice because I expected that Epson, which started strong with Linux would still be doing so. But .... no drivers. I searched the CD for a PPD. No luck! So in the back of my mind I heard a quiet memory echo, ndis wrapper. Is that still a viable process? And is it complex? How would I get it to work with the scanner? Gratefully and hopefully Andrew Greig

NDIS wrappers only work with Windows networking drivers, so it won't help you with any other kind of device: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NDISwrapper Always research specific models for compatibility before purchase. Your best option at this point is to take the MFP back for a refund or exchange on the basis that it doesn't work with your OS. You may be able to use this third-party software: https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/epson_xp_432.html Hope that helps, Andrew

Hope that helps, Andrew Thanks Andrew, When I got some time to sit down I discovered the ndiswrapper, was not a strange musician but a way to get network drivers working. I actually have a version of Vuescan, but my computer is 64 bit and my Grandson's is a Toshiba 32 bit laptop. I can't remember what it cost, but it was pretty flash. I tend to use Xsane these days to drive my Epson SCSI scanner.
ten minutes later, I checked Vuescan and was eligible for an update, and I discovered that I can use it on four devices within my family under the terms of the licence, so I downloaded the 32 bit version for my Grandson, and will check it out on the weekend. Andrew Greig

Yes.. In the past, I always had the view that Epson was good with Linux. BUT I too have had a bad experience with an Epson printer recently. I could get it to work partially with a driver for a different printer, but it has a few issues with margins for example, and also reporting ink volume. So Epson's are not as good as they have been before. Daniel. On 18/02/16 22:37, Andrew Greig via luv-main wrote:

Hi Andrew. I have an Epson XP-610 MFP and had no problems getting it to work with the Epson-supplied Linux drivers, but I did find that I had to search for them on one of the international Epson websites as the Australian Epson website claimed there were no Linux drivers available for the XP-610. If you use the Epson UK website and search for XP-432 Linux downloads, you will get to this URL eventually: http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModule If you enter XP-432 as the product and Linux as the operating system, you should get three download options: 1. Generic printer driver 2. Printer utility 3. Scanner driver Screenshot with driver version details attached. I've found Epson's Linux support to be good, even if it can be hard if you are relying on the local website for driver support! Regards Graeme

Thanks Graeme, I am greatly relieved to be able to get this device working for young Andre. I have sent him off to Year six with a laptop loaded with Mageia. He has taken to it quite readily, he is totally unaware of Windows. I will help him find the stuff he needs, but really, he gets around in it very well. I gave up too readily in my search for the drivers, and you outstripped my endeavours, I am very grateful for your persistence. Andrew Greig
