Hi all, Has anyone been able to recover a playlist from an iPod. I downloaded the songs OK but they do not use the real MP3 filename. Some other alphabetical naming system is used. Want to use a playlist for a family party this Saturday. No the invitation is not on Facebook, and Corey is not invited. Andrew Greig

Hi Andrew I do not have an iPod but don't they sync to Amarok or Banshee? Cheers Nic

I don't have an I* for any value of * but... Perhaps you could use id3v2 to recover the original names from the MP3 files, or at least to identify what they are. The -l option appears to be the one you want. Of course, if the files aren't tagged, this won't work. It's in the id3v2 package.

The gtkpod application (http://www.gtkpod.org) will let you export from an iPod to sensibly named files. It can also export playlists. Available in all good repositories! Glenn -- sks-keyservers.net 0xb1e82ec9228ac090

I don't own an i(anything), but I remember hearing of plugins for heaps of different media players, that'd probably let you use it like any other media player with them. I don't know much about it because I prefer to manage mine with a file browser. On 10 June 2012 17:04, Glenn McIntosh <neonsignal@memepress.org> wrote:

EasyTAG [0] allows you to batch-rename audio files according to their metadata (ID3 and whatnot). -- [0] http://easytag.sourceforge.net/

Thanks to all, I am now well armed with EasyTag, and I have found that I can import from the iPod into Banshee (Gnome desktop here) and when imported the files have their mp3 tags displayed. The iPod has been returned to its owner, but when I get it back this coming weekend I will have a crack at using gtkpod to find and d/l the Playlist from the machine. With that done I should be able to use this playlist of choice to pipe music down an ethernet cable to the receiver, for the enjoyment of all. Thanks for your helpful responses. Andrew Greig
