I'm quite optimistic about this pending $34 billion aquisition. Unlike the knee jerk frenzy surrounding the Microsoft aquisition of Github, IBM (already painted historically as a victim in the whole OS/2 debacle with Microsoft) has managed to be portrayed as a champion of FOSS where Linux based projects are concerned. Quite the opposite connotations seem to exist where the Evil EllisonCo's (Oracle) clone of RHEL (Unbreakable) is concerned. Instead of embracing and suppporting the FOSS spirit, Oracle (to me, anyway) seemed to be merely constructing a bridge of forced conveyance towards their propietary offerings. Sorry if I've offended anyone, but Bill Joy (creator of the [functional] Internet IMNSHO) is one of my personal heroes, and the vaporized remnants of Sun Microsystems, among other destructive business initiatives, has left a really bad taste in my mouth. At the very least, the Evil EllisonCo could have kept the Sun logo extant in techie popular culture lol. - -- Bradley D.
