Hi, This is on a fresh install of Debian 7.1 XFCE AMD64 on an Optiplex 780. It's multiarch - i386 added so Skype i386 can be installed. Skype appears happy, but calls to the Echo / Sound Test Service don't return my audio. The simplest manisfestation of this problem is that ALSA capture doesn't capture anything, but silence. I'm using: arecord -d 5 --vumeter=mono /tmp/foo.wav The meter doesn't move, and playing back with: aplay --vumeter=mono /tmp/foo produces silence (but playing another .wav file is OK). In alsamixer, I've maximised all Capture settings, and have set the input sources (both of them) to "Front Mic" (this _should_ be the correct input - the Mic is connected at the front and in the playback devices cranking up "Front Mic" results in the Mic audio going to the headset (i.e. sidetone)). According to lspci, the audio device is a: "Intel Corporation 82801JD/DO (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)" Curiously, we had the same problem with a completely different machine earlier this year - all OK but Microphone Capture not working (Debian installation report at: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=701171 We never "solved" that - the workaround was to use a "USB" headset/microphone (i.e. USB Sound "card"). Any suggestions? Thanks, Neale.
